Jesse Factor trained at the Martha Graham School and danced with Graham II, and the Martha Graham Dance Company. Jesse’s solo creative work, which playfully explores the Martha-verse and other legendary divas, is frequently presented in the context of dance, theater, and nightclub performances. Factor’s work-in-progress Show Queen was recognized as a 2023 National Dance Project finalist.

Clara Kent is an Afro-Indigenous multidisciplinary artist, a community liaison from Homewood, Pa, and the host of More Bounce on WYEP. Whether the medium is music, canvas, or curation, Clara uplifts the creative community, especially Black artists and youth, through her actions in mentorship, her raw & vulnerable artistry, and her arts advocacy work. Clara was named Pittsburgh City Paper’s “Person of the Year” for Music in 2019 and has performed across many stages.

Participants will be led through a warm-up integrating improvisation, contemporary dance, and yoga. Following the warm-up, an all-levels section of repertory from Lost on a Loom will be taught for participants to engage in the artists’ creative process.

Storytime! We want to share a story about how your support has made a difference in a family's life at The Alloy School. ❤ Laurie Trok is a multidisciplinary artist from Pittsburgh, PA. She lives with her family in Penn Hills. She and her partner found KST’s Alloy Studios during the pandemic, where their niece took virtual dance classes and found some joy in a challenging and confusing time. According to Laurie, "It started with a virtual class during the pandemic - as soon as we could, my mom and I started bringing my niece to class in person. Mr. Simon and Miss Aubrey were so welcoming and warm to the students, including my curious but very anxious son who just observed. They made a point to make him feel included and welcome to join on his terms - and he always looked forward to coming to watch". "The following season, my niece’s confidence soared, and we enrolled her and my son in The Alloy School’s Hip Hop class. Though he really wanted to dance, he mostly found himself next to me, watching. We drew pictures of the dancers and of the songs while she practiced". "Each week the teachers would encourage and build him up, and Mr. Simon even brought him a cool book to look at as inspiration for drawing until, finally, my son decided he was ready to join. No pressure, only respect and patience. It paid off, and he even ended up dancing in the showcase on the big stage with his awesome cousin. They both grew so much from the experience.
