Don't miss this show! A brand new translation and adaptation of this 100 year old play that speaks loudly to our modern moment as we wrestle with the questions of AI and the future of work!

R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) – The Play That Imagined the Future

Step into the world of Karel Čapek's visionary science fiction masterpiece, R.U.R.—the play that gave the world the word robot. Set in a not-so-distant future, this thought-provoking production explores the triumphs and perils of human innovation. When Rossum's Universal Robots begin to replace human labor, society faces an unexpected reckoning: what happens when machines become more human than we ever imagined?
This gripping production dives into themes of power, identity, and the essence of life itself. As the robots rise up against their creators, the very foundations of human civilization are shaken. In this compelling narrative, questions of artificial intelligence, human rights, and morality are more relevant today than ever.

Why You Can't Miss This:
-Timely Storytelling: At a moment when AI and automation are reshaping our world, R.U.R. serves as a startling reflection on the consequences of technological progress.
-Visually Stunning: Cutting-edge stage design brings this industrial dystopia to life, blending futuristic and classic elements in an unforgettable theatrical experience.
-A Cultural Milestone: See the play that coined "robot" and laid the groundwork for countless sci-fi stories in film, television, and literature.

Get ready to experience a landmark in theatre history. R.U.R. is a thrilling ride from start to finish—bold, daring, and eerily prophetic.

Join us for a journey into the future where robots rule, and humanity faces its ultimate challenge.

The post-show discussions for Khūrākī are promising to be out-of-this-world, thanks to our incredible groups of panelists. For the discussion Saturday, April 13th, we'll be focusing on "What's Changed in Afghanistan" since the show was written in 2019. Because as you may know, those changes have been stark, sweeping and affect the lives of every person in, and working with, the Afghan community.

On Saturday, you'll hear about the 2021 US pullout from Afghanistan from the perspective of someone who was at the Kabul airport at the time. You'll hear about the changing status of women in Afghanistan, and how needs are different for Afghans arriving to Pittsburgh after 2021 vs. those who are represented in the show. And you'll discover ways that you can help.

Panelists include Elizabeth Ringler-Jayanthan, Refugee & Immigrant Services Therapist, Center for Afghan Resilience at Bethany Christian Services; Addi Fergyson, Program Coordinator of the Family Strengthening Program at Bethany; Sohrab Bakhshi, entrepreneur, Afghan immigrant; and Mohammad Nazeer Mayar, interpreter at Bethany, Pitt law school graduate and Afghan immigrant.

Bring your questions. We want to hear from you.

Visit realtimeinterventions.org for tix, which include the show, an Afghan tasting menu, live music, and the talkback! TICKETS ARE FREE for all members of the Afghan community; write to [email protected].

We've all heard of Afghanistan on the news. But how much do you really know about the culture, cuisine, and people of this ancient country on the Silk Road?

This April 12-14, at the Hillman Center for Performing Arts Peter J. Kountz Theater, learn about your Afghan neighbors at RealTime Arts' unique culinary-theatrical experience Khūrākī.

The show was created by RealTime Arts with a group of female Afghan refugees who received culinary and entrepreneurial training as part of the theater project. They went on to start the first Afghan food business in Pittsburgh, Zafaron Afghan Cuisine, and will be cooking delicious Afghan dishes for you as part of the show.

The performance features stories from the women themselves, performed by the Pittsburgh actors they chose to represent them. Look beyond the news cycle to discover the beauty of the land, the culture and the people of Afghanistan-- as shared by Pittsburgh's Afghans themselves.
