let me tell you something.
this job? it can be a lot. the pressure and expectations, of course, but also the physicality of the work. the energy it takes to observe a person’s story thoughtfully and carefully and with purpose is almost impossible to describe. so many hearts get poured into everything, everywhere, all at once, all around you. it can be a lot to take in.
i can only speak for myself, but as a photographer i know i am always chasing the single shot. the frame that will wrap the months upon months of planning into a single image. the photo that will do it all justice. that will show the beauty and the honesty and the intimacy of the day. the one frame that, when i look at it, i stop. i can feel the sun, i can smell the sea, i can hear their voices. photography has a way of transporting us in a way that no other art form can. it shows us our reality, but in an unrealistic way because it’s frozen. a snapshot. we can really look at a photograph of a person, of a couple.
it’s what has always drawn me to photography.
& for me, this photo is it for madison & george. that sun going down on the west side of the tetons last summer, then freshly married, running back to their friends and family. not a damn care in the world. they’re free. together.
