Spring is well and truly on its way here at Tūpare, and there's heaps of colour to see around the garden! Rhododendron 'Russell Matthews' (named after the founder of Tūpare) is looking stunning in deep red, Prunus 'Awanui' is pretty in pink, and the azaleas are transforming the ground into a riot of colourful blooms.

Our spring newsletter comes out next week, with updates on seasonal highlights, recent projects across the gardens, and upcoming events! Sign up to receive it at the link in the comments and stay up to date on the best of the gardens at the start of each season. 👇

Proud to see Tūpare retain its Qualmark Gold for another year! 🥇💚

Feeling extra proud of our gardens team today. 💚
Tūpare, Pukeiti and Hollard Gardens have all retained their Qualmark Gold Sustainable Tourism Award for another year. This award is the highest possible recognition for sustainability and visitor experience in the country!
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to keep our three gardens looking their best and make them great places to visit, so it’s awesome to see that mahi recognised again.
Ka rawe, team! 👏

Midwinter garden update ❄️🌷

Despite the chilly temperatures of late, the garden is starting to wake up with daffodils, magnolias, roses, and azaleas beginning to flower. Our rhododendrons are budding up and some early-flowering varieties are already in bloom, like the Rhododendron arboreum 'Kermesinum' pictured, reminding us that spring isn't too far away!

The low angle of the sun in winter creates a beautiful interplay of light and shadow across the ground and over the plants. Birds are easily spotted in bare branches this time of year, and the garden has a peaceful and relaxed feel 💚
