She had the idea of a bag or a large ring to wear on her arm. She really really didn't want to hold a bouquet for her wedding day.

We threw ideas around, and when Janaya mentioned she has this bag that can held a certain way, she asked if I could somehow design flowers for it.

"Of course I can!"

It was actually a lot easier that I thought it would be and was so thrilled how it turned out.

I've been meeting lots of new couples, right at the starting part of the flower planning. It's exciting being able to start with a blank canvas of ideas. We start with the non-negotiables - obviously the bouquets, then most usually the ceremony space and reception.

The humble calla lily. If you’re deep in the world of wedding planning, you’ve likely noticed them quietly taking over.

They've been a favourite of mine ever since I started floristry (way back in 2003). So I'm not complaining couples are requesting these babes again.

This time around, they feel different though. A little bolder, a little more refined. They suit a clean, modern style and, with a simple dress, really don’t need anything extra.

So tell me… are you into the bold, sculptural vibe of calla lilies, or are you a soft, romantic flower girl at heart?

Ordering from a range of suppliers can be tricky. I'd love to be based in Auckland or Wellington where I can walk down the aisles of trolleys ready for aution morning and choose accordingly.

Next best thing collating a dream list and is sending it along with my mood board to my wholesaler who are my eyes on the auction floor and does the buying for.

Fortunately they are florists also and they are always on the same page as me. Hand selected just for your day.

The flowers were collected by friends so we'll have to patiently wait for pictures to see how it all came together.

But pleeeease do them right! They need volume and careful design. Not just a vase plonked on top. Make them the statement they're meant to be 😉
