Your family memories are on a USB. What next?

Once your old photos or home movies have been converted, make a backup plan for the digital files.

A USB is handy for receiving and sharing a collection, but it shouldn't be the only place those files live. Storage devices can fail or go missing.

The National Film and Sound Archive recommends the 3-2-1 approach: keep three copies in total, use two types of storage, and keep one copy in a different location.

After copying, open a selection of photos and videos to check they work. Set aside a little time each year to check your stored files again.

It's a simple habit that helps keep family memories accessible for the people who'll enjoy them next.

Have photos or recordings still waiting to be converted? Digital Media Now is based in Tamworth, with Australia-wide mail-in available.

Found an envelope of old family negatives? Here's a simple care tip 🎞️

Keep your fingers off the image area and handle negatives carefully by the edges. Before sorting, clear a clean, dry space away from food and drinks.

The Library of Congress recommends this kind of careful handling for photographic materials, including negatives. It's a small step you can take while choosing which family memories you'd like to digitise.

Digital Media Now offers negative and slide scanning, plus 1200 dpi photo scanning. We're based in South Tamworth, with Australia-wide mail-in available.

A small storage tip for your old VHS and camcorder tapes 📼

Keep tapes upright in their cases. The National Film and Sound Archive recommends this to protect the tape edges, and warns that stacking cassettes can warp their plastic shells.

Choose a cool, dry indoor spot away from heat, bathrooms and laundries.

Ready to watch those family moments again? Digital Media Now converts VHS and camcorder tapes to digital, with Australia-wide mail-in available.

Sorting old family photos? Keep the names and dates with them, but write your notes on the sleeve or envelope rather than attaching sticky labels to the print.

The Library of Congress recommends labelling the photo’s housing where possible and avoiding sticky notes, adhesive tape, glue and paper clips on photographs. It’s a simple way to organise your memories while taking care of the originals.

Ready to make digital copies? Digital Media Now can scan your photos, slides and negatives.

When was the last time you watched your old family videos? 📼

Weddings, holidays, birthdays and familiar voices can sit in a cupboard for years because the player no longer works.

At Digital Media Now in South Tamworth, we convert VHS and camcorder tapes, scan 8mm and Super 8 film, and digitise photos and slides so you can enjoy and share those memories again.

A useful first step: gather your collection and jot down any names, dates or places you recognise. Those little details help keep the stories with the pictures.

Not sure what format you have? Give us a call on 0418 162 215.
