How to Have a Great Menu Tasting - Part 2
Your more than just the menu, it's one of the few times during wedding planning where you get to experience what your guests will experience. Treat it like the opportunity it is. Show up prepared and with questions. Here are a few of our favorite tips.
Have a Plan
So good we're listing it twice. Have your list of questions and a way to document your thoughts about the six or more dishes you'll be sampling in an hour. Take pictures and notes. Our Tasting Guide is perfectly set up to keep your thoughts intact.
Ask About Mods
If you have guests with celiac, shellfish allergies, or other dietary restrictions, ask your caterer how they'll modify each dish. Don't just assume they'll "figure it out." Get specifics. Will your vegan guests leave hungry? Will the gluten-free guest get a completely different plate, or a modified version of what everyone else is eating? This isn't being high-maintenance. This is making sure your guests can actually eat the food you're paying for.
Understand the Flow
Plated service, family style, buffet, and stations each carry different staffing requirements, timing implications, and guest experiences. The choice should be intentional, not assumed. Based on your preferred service, ask how long you should account for service so you can pick the best times for speeches and dancing.
Beyond the Wine
Your bar deserves its own conversation. Signature cocktails, low-ABV options, last call timing, special orders and serving policies. These are details that should be finalized before your first guest orders a drink.
The tasting is a beginning, not a finish line. The couples we work with walk away from it with answers, not just appetite.
