We're headed into our first 2026 wedding of the summer. It is with the loveliest couple and under circumstances we hope we never encounter again...
About 16 days ago they contacted us to see if we would be available to coordinate their wedding on June 21... of this year. Under normal circumstances, this would be a red flag and an automatic no, but as I read their inquiry further I learned the only reason they were looking was that their previous coordinator had just backed out because they hadn't realized the 21st was Father's Day.
I audibly said to no one in the room "What do you mean they didn't know it was Father's Day?"
I am sharing this story, not to blast the other coordinator. I share this because in our current economy two things are contributing to situations like this. One, vendors are feeling pressure to say yes to every opportunity to gain experience and payments. This causes under delivery or no delivery of services. This is happening with experienced and new vendors. And two, being wary of "too good to be true" isn't enough. Active vetting and non-traditional methods of research are needed. It can be head spinning and exhausting.
We'll be talking more about this in the future and sharing more about how we spend our time when we're not executing wedding weekends this season.
