Cocktail hour appetizers have an important job: keep guests happy while giving them a taste of what’s still to come.

The key isn’t simply offering as many appetizers as possible. It’s creating the right amount of variety with different flavors, textures, and styles so there’s something for everyone—without guests filling up before dinner even begins.

At Stonehouse Catering, we help you build a cocktail hour menu that makes sense with the rest of your meal. That might mean balancing richer bites with something fresh and light or choosing a mix of familiar favorites and more unexpected options.

From bacon-wrapped dates and stuffed mushrooms to bruschetta crostini and mini crab cakes, every bite should have a purpose.

A great cocktail hour leaves guests satisfied—but still excited to see what’s for dinner.

Cocktail hour food has a tough job: be memorable without slowing anyone down.

Sushi flats check a lot of boxes. It's fresh, packed with flavor, easy to enjoy in a bite or two, and light enough that guests still have room for dinner.

Plus, salmon sushi brings something completely different to the menu when paired alongside richer, warmer appetizers.

Small bite. Big impact.

When planning your event menu, it’s tempting to start by choosing the entrée, but we like to look at the bigger picture first.

How do you want the meal to feel? Elevated and elegant? Relaxed and familiar? Social and interactive? Once you know the experience you want to create, the individual menu choices become much easier.

At Stonehouse Catering, we help you think through the entire meal—from the first appetizers guests enjoy during cocktail hour to the entrées, sides, and desserts that follow. Each choice should complement the next so the menu feels intentional rather than like a collection of separate dishes.

You don’t have to know exactly what you want before you come to us. We’ll help you build a menu that flows beautifully, fits your event, and gives your guests an experience they’ll remember.

There's something special about looking around the room once dinner is served.

Every table is full.

Conversations are flowing.

Friends are reconnecting.

Family members are sharing stories.

A great meal creates a natural pause in the celebration, giving everyone a chance to relax, connect, and enjoy being together before the night continues.

At the end of the day, that's what catering is really about: bringing people together around great food.

Planning your menu should be exciting—not stressful.

With Stonehouse Catering, we don't expect you to have all the answers before your first meeting. That's what we're here for.

We'll walk you through your options, learn about your vision, your guests, and your budget, then help you create a menu that feels like the perfect fit. Whether you're deciding between a plated dinner or buffet, selecting appetizers for cocktail hour, or finding the right entrée pairings, our team is there to guide you with recommendations based on experience.

The end result isn't just a delicious meal—it's a menu that feels thoughtfully planned, reflects your event, and gives your guests something to remember.

Because great catering starts with great conversations.

When you're planning an event, it's easy to focus on the entrée everyone else will be eating.

But don't forget about your youngest guests.

A thoughtful kids meal gives children something familiar they'll actually enjoy, helps parents relax knowing there's something on the menu for them, and keeps everyone at the table happy.

Sometimes the simplest menu choices make the biggest difference in your guests' experience.

Cocktail hour is more than just a break between the ceremony and dinner. It's your guests' first taste of what's to come.

Choosing a variety of passed hors d'oeuvres or beautifully displayed appetizers keeps guests mingling while offering something for every palate. A combination of savory, fresh, and elevated bites creates an experience that feels intentional from the very first bite.

At Stonehouse Catering, favorites like Bacon Wrapped Dates, Stuffed Mushrooms, Bruschetta Crostini, and Mini Crab Cakes are designed to be enjoyed while guests mix, mingle, and celebrate. It's a simple way to set the tone for an unforgettable meal before everyone even takes their seat.

A great charcuterie display is designed to keep guests coming back.

The secret isn't adding more food—it's creating variety.

Different textures. Different flavors. Different heights. Different colors.

A bite of creamy cheese followed by something salty. Fresh fruit to balance rich meats. Crunchy crackers mixed with softer accompaniments.

When every bite feels a little different from the last, guests naturally keep exploring the board.

That's what turns a beautiful display into one that's empty by the end of cocktail hour.

One of the biggest advantages of working with a custom caterer is building a menu where every course complements the next.

A rich Beef Tenderloin pairs beautifully with the fresh flavors of a Grilled Peach Burrata Salad. Sesame Teriyaki Salmon and a Crunchy Asian Salad create a lighter, vibrant combination. And Herb Roasted Pork Tenderloin alongside Sweet Potato Mash delivers the perfect balance of savory and sweet.

These are the kinds of combinations Chef Adam helps clients create every day because a memorable meal is about more than choosing great dishes. It's about choosing dishes that work together.

A great entrée isn't built by placing a steak on a plate and calling it done.

It starts with the foundation. Creamy mashed potatoes create richness and anchor the dish. Asparagus adds freshness and balance. Then comes the star of the plate: perfectly prepared beef.

A carefully chosen sauce ties every flavor together, while fresh herbs provide the finishing touch.

Every ingredient has a purpose. When a dish is designed from the bottom up, each element complements the next, creating a plate that's balanced, beautiful, and memorable.
