We recently had the pleasure of working with Monique Fiso (Ngā Rauru, Ngāti Ruanui, Samoa) for the IWA–ASPIRE Cultural Gala Dinner at Te Pae Convention Centre. Monique is an award-winning chef celebrated for her contribution to Māori and Pasifika cuisine. She is the co-owner of Hiakai, a culinary creative that specialises in storytelling through kai.

Together, we created an unforgettable experience for over 400 international delegates, giving them a taste of Aotearoa New Zealand. While the manuhiri dined, they also had the opportunity to hear Monique deliver a keynote presentation on her inspiring career.

The menu was centred around a traditional hāngī and was cooked with hāngī master Grenville Pitama (Ngāi Tūāhuriri) and his whānau. Grenville is the kaitiaki of the hāngī pits located in downtown Ōtautahi. They are some of the largest urban hāngī pits in the world and were installed in 2019 in partnership with Ōtautahi City Council and local iwi.

This was a really special one for Avenues to work on!

Behind the scenes at the NZ Spirits Awards 2025 🥃

It’s not the same glamour as awards night but this is where the mahi starts.

Four months ago, our Avenues crew delivered the judging event, bringing together expert judges, hundreds of spirits, and a shared passion for New Zealand’s distilling scene.

The NZ Spirits Awards celebrate the craft and creativity behind every bottle made here in Aotearoa - from boutique distilleries to global brands.

We’re proud to play a part in the mahi that happens long before the trophies are handed out. ✨

We were proud to support The Biogas Bridge as event organisers — a forum bringing together industry leaders, researchers, and government representatives to explore how biogas can help power Aotearoa’s low-emissions future.

The event fostered collaboration across energy, waste and agricultural sectors, highlighting the opportunities biogas offers for sustainable growth and circular economy solutions.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for making this important kōrero such a success.

The Te Niwha Ngātahi Forum brought together researchers, health professionals, iwi and community leaders to share knowledge and strengthen collaboration in tackling infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness.

With a focus on equity, Māori and Pacific leadership, and evidence-based public health responses, the forum highlighted the power of collective action and mātauranga Māori to protect the wellbeing of all communities.

It was inspiring to see such commitment to innovation and partnership.

We're looking forward to working with Te Niwha on their annual conference later this year!
