3rd Edinburgh Tartan Parade on 8th May 2027 will bring together tartans, pipe bands, dancers, musicians, organisations, and individuals from across Scotland and beyond to celebrate country’s rich heritage, tartans, culture and inclusivity! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Get ready to witness a spectacular display of tartan-clad participants marching through the historic streets of Edinburgh. From traditional bagpipers to highland dancers, this event promises to be a feast for the senses. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Scotland. Are you aged 12–16, living in Scotland and love to draw, paint or create?

We’re inviting young artists from across Scotland to design the artwork for the official Edinburgh Tartan Parade 2027 poster.

The Edinburgh Tartan Parade brings thousands of people together in the heart of Scotland’s capital to celebrate tartan, Scottish culture, creativity and community. On Saturday 8 May 2027, the Parade will once again fill the streets of Edinburgh with colour, music, dancing and, of course, lots of tartan.

We want you to help us bring the 2027 Parade to life.

Create an original piece of artwork inspired by the Edinburgh Tartan Parade, which will return for its third year in 2027. Taking place each year on World Fair Trade Day, the parade brings together 3,000 participants from Edinburgh, across Scotland and from around the world to celebrate tartan, Scottish heritage and community in the heart of the city.

The parade route runs from the Royal Mile, down Cockburn Street and Waverley Bridge, through East Princes Street Gardens, The Mound Precinct and Princes Street Gardens, finishing at the Ross Bandstand. You may like to take inspiration from the sense of celebration along the route, Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, tartan, pipers, drummers, Highland dancers, clans and Scottish culture. Our 2027 parade logo also features Greyfriars Bobby, one of Edinburgh’s most famous four-legged residents, so we’d love to see how you might incorporate him or his story into your design. But most importantly, we want to see your own creativity and ideas!

Ideally, your artwork should be square in shape, allowing us to add event information around your design when creating the final poster. We’d ask you not to include any text, dates or event details within your artwork, as these will be added separately by our team.

Talented musicians and dancers, brilliant groups and individuals… and Oor Haggis, Nessie, Trudy the Unicorn, a Chinese dragon and even dinosaurs! Just your average day out in Edinburgh, then?! 😉✨

There’s certainly no shortage of creativity at the Tartan Parade - and we have something creative to announce this evening too! 🎨

But first, a few lovely words from Councillor Robert Aldridge, speaking from aboard ’ tartan bus, on the Parade’s impact… touching hearts, bringing people together and celebrating culture with joy! ❤️

With the weather turning cooler, here’s Greyfriars Bobby showing us one way to keep cosy with a wee tartan wrap! 🐶🐾🧣

There’s more to this photo than meets the eye… Bobby inspired our 2027 parade logo, while the World Fair Trade Tartan he’s wearing takes us back to where the idea for our Parade began…❤️

The tartan featured in the Fair Trade Fiesta Parade in 2017, sparking the idea of bringing even more tartans together. The iconic NYC Tartan Day Parade later provided further inspiration for our own Edinburgh celebration! 🙌🥰✨

Nearly ten years since the tartan’s launch, it’s lovely to look back at the stories that helped bring our Parade to life! 🌍

Who has a soft spot for Greyfriars Bobby? 🐾❤️ Here’s a wee story about Edinburgh’s famously loyal companion and the inspiration behind our 2027 parade logo.

Our four-legged friends will have their own dedicated space in the 2027 Parade too! More to follow! 🐶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Taking us back to our second Edinburgh Tartan Parade with the brilliant Grant Stott introducing our participants from aboard the Lothian Buses tartan bus for the second year running! 🚌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

Sooo it’s six months since Tartan Day and six months until the next… and this wee moment of anticipation from the NYC Parade line-up has us feeling the excitement all over again! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

As you may know, New York has been such a big inspiration for our Edinburgh Tartan Parade… and holds some pretty special memories for us!
