Flower cart Friday is happening today

One thing I’m realizing about her is she’s only gonna pop out when the conditions are just right.

And today is one of those days:

☀️Nice, calm weather
☀️Shopkeeper with time on her hands
☀️A day that feels meant for wandering

Come play 💐

May is mental health awareness month

It’s also, ironically, the busiest month in flower world AND end-of-school-year world, dance recital world, everything all in one month.

so for me, it has meant that I’m not getting as much time to rest, reflect, and restore balance in my own mind and body recently.

But I knew I wanted to take a moment to share my awareness on this topic because I have quite the experience,
and this subject applies to each and every one of us.

Mental health matters for everyone with a brain.

And if you’re someone who’s been labeled “disordered,”
me too.

And not just a little anxious or sad.
The unsexy psych ward stuff.
The whole 9.

It’s actually interesting to be labeled “disordered” by a society that runs on disconnection, endless consumption, emotional suppression, burnout and performance,

calls that “normal,”

and often medicates you right back into surviving the system.*

You were not designed to live like that.

You deserve the time, space, and support necessary to heal
from what hurt you,
and from a culture that continues to add pressure, disconnection, and performance to your plate.

Your story doesn’t end where it hurts,
It’s still unfolding 🦋

*we support medication here btw. Support comes in many forms💊🌱🙏🏼

As I made commencement arrangements and listened as the seniors left the parking lot for the last time on Friday,

I reflected on my own experience 13 years ago when I graduated high school.

I remember that newfound sense of freedom.

No longer needing permission to use the restroom.
Getting to choose where and how I was going to spend my time.

I remember leaving my hometown at 18 and feeling called toward something bigger.

And somehow, over the last 10 years, I ended up building my dream life right here in another small town.

To any high school seniors that may be reading this:
the world is your oyster.
Go out and experience it,
meet new people,
gain new perspectives.

and then when you’re 25, come back to Sumner and bring everything you learned with you 😁

Because one thing is for sure:
the real world doesn’t care who you were in high school,
your hometown does 🫶🏻

And we’ll always root for you 🌸

Visual evidence of my evolution 🌹

The last picture is the roses Alex got me for Mother’s Day five years ago
(from The Wild Rose, too 👀)

I distinctly remember this because it was the only time I ever got wrapped flowers

I remember how therapeutic it was arranging them.
All of my very little kids in bed,
the house quiet.
I took my time,
just me, some pink roses and my kitchen scissors ✂️

And an interesting conviction I had while writing this:

Designing for The Wild Rose has never quite felt therapeutic to me.

And I think that’s because pressure

And fear

Which creates stress

And stress blocks your creative and intuitive flow

So here’s to becoming more aware of that fear,
Trusting my own process
Trusting my evolution
Surrendering outcomes

And not sitting here nitpicking these photos and tweaking my current arrangements to death 🤪

I can’t wait to see what I create in a year from now 🫶🏻

The shop is open today 9-3!

Garden Center is hereee 🌱

Please note I did not do any vegetables this year and my selection is intentionally small, while I learn what fits here at The Wild Rose.

I know there are many wonderful and established greenhouses around our area, and I’m grateful to explore this world.

If there’s anything missing you’d like to see in the future, please feel free to share.

I’m excited to let this space evolve☀️
