For this styled shoot in Hood River, Oregon, we wanted to push creative boundaries and bring together bold color, sculptural florals, unexpected textures, and couture fashion against the timeless backdrop of Griffin House.

As the designers and planners behind this shoot, our goal was to create something elevated and unexpected while giving each creative vendor the freedom to showcase their work in a new way.

We love projects like this because they give us the opportunity to experiment, collaborate, and bring a shared vision to life.

Another Captain Whidbey in the books with an amazing vendor team. It was so lovely getting to spend two years crafting this intentional celebration with these two. We loved having the time and space to make each decision organically and with the utmost care. Also, all the time in the world to bond over the love our cats both nicknamed Ma’am.

Whether you have a planner guiding the way or a coordinator stepping in to bring it all together, the key is remembering that your wedding is about celebrating your love.

This day was so wonderful in no small part to clients and a vendor team that could pivot. Unexpected things will happen on wedding days (like an art installation that had been up for years suddenly changing), weeks leading up to your weekend, and having a joyful spirit and a willingness to adapt will absolutely give you more space to be in the moment.

Private property weddings come with a little more work. Everything has to be brought in, from the tents and power to the tables, chairs, bathrooms, and all the little details you don’t think about until someone has to figure them out.

But the payoff is getting married somewhere that actually means something to you, in a place that feels entirely your own.

If you’re taking on a private property wedding, hire a planner who can carry the logistics while giving you the space to actually enjoy what you’ve created. You should be able to look around on your wedding day and feel present.

What your wedding planner wishes every couple knew.

Planning comes in waves. Give yourself grace when the decision fatigue hits.

Not every detail matters equally. Your planner is there to help you keep perspective.

Slow down. In planning, on the wedding day, and especially with each other.

Your wedding is for YOU two first, then your community. You set the tone.

Invest in experiences, not just stuff. The internet will always try to sell you more.

Take time off before the wedding. Give yourself room to breathe when the last-minute details inevitably pop up.

Delegate thoughtfully. Handing something to a friend doesn’t always mean handing off the mental load.

Something will go wrong. That’s why you have a planner. Let them solve it so you can stay present.

Most importantly, focus on what’s going right. The people you love, the moments that matter, and the fact that you’re getting married.

The best wedding day isn’t a perfect one. It’s one where you’re actually there to experience it.

What an impossible task to talk about this day at Captain Whidbey. It was everything. Working with them for two years was the most even-keeled endeavor.

We had the time to be creative, silly, and genuinely enrolled in each other’s lives. I saw them through career transitions. They saw me become a parent. There was enough room for all of it in our relationship. They placed their trust in our creative know how.

We delivered above and beyond in the form of a custom build chuppah and lighting installation. The wedding day transcended our expectations. We were not only their wedding planners, but felt a part of their community and family. That is magic.
