What a magical evening it must have been! The enchanting ambiance of Mondello Trattoria set the stage for a truly unforgettable night. The warmth of laughter and the passion for music filled the air as Paul Simon and his crew of twenty-two gathered for a cherished celebration on a quiet Monday night.

The charm of the evening was palpable, with guests savoring delectable dishes such as polpette, polpo, burrata, frutti di mare, and ravioli. Each bite paired perfectly with fine Amarone and Barbaresco, creating a culinary experience that was both buonissimo and bellissimo.

Special thanks to Jeffrey Kramer, whose exceptional kindness ensured that every detail was perfect. His generosity, coupled with the heartfelt words, "Sofana, you are a gift for us," added a personal touch that resonated deeply. It reminded everyone that even when traveling far from home, there is always a place of warmth and belonging to be found.

The night was a beautiful blend of music, food, and soul, making it a splendid tapestry of love and gratitude. To the hostess, it felt like a gift from the sky—a tribute to the essence of warmth and hospitality.

Paul Simon is in town, playing five shows (3 @ Benaroya, 2 @ McCaw). Couple of nights ago, he wanted to eat at an authentic Italian restaurant, so he had his staff call around to see if they could narrow things down, there being dozens of pretenders. When the phone rang at Mondello Ristorante, a 36-seat, 20-year-old Sicilian spot in Magnolia, the new owner, Sofana Laible, answered. Bless her, she's lived in the US for decades, she's married to an American, but she's never lost her Italian accent. Also, her late mother, Mamma Enza, was the original chef.

"The real thing," Mr. Simon's staff decided. Table for four at 8 o'clock? Of course. And that is how, on Wednesday night, Paul Simon's party arrived in virtual anonymity and enjoyed a genuine Sicilian dinner. "I pushed two tables together over by the wall," Sofana recalled. "I knew the name but I didn't recognize him." :)
