Wednesday Scarlett Update:
-The therapists for OT, PT, and Speech mer with us yesterday to review the results of the 3 day evaluation they did on Scarlett to set her baseline. On their scale, she fits at the upper end of “unresponsive wakefulness.” She is moving towards “minimally conscious state” which is the next category on the scale. Overall, the team was very positive and confident in being able to work with Scarlett and see her progress, especially as medicines are tinkered with on the medical side leading to her being awake more.
-The team is taking a multi sensory approach as often as they can because at this point, we don’t know which of Scarlett’s senses will respond first. So things like touch and music are often combined.
-They said that right now Scarlett gives generalized responses to stimuli, such as kicking her foot out when stimulated on the shoulder. They will work with her to make those responses more localized (move her shoulder when it’s touched rather than kick her leg.
-she began a low dose of a neuro stimulant today. They said it will take time to build in her system and likely they will have to go up on the dose later, but they would like to start small and see her reaction to it. The goal is more awake time and awareness.
-Today Scarlett will get speech therapy (for facial muscles, physical therapy, and music therapy). She also has a special friend from back home coming to visit her.
-We continue to pray for miracles, no matter the size. We pray for her medical team. We pray for healing in her brain, for therapies to be effective, and for complete restoration of our sweet girl. Mark 5:41
