FRIDAY- Charity golf tournament at Old Liberty. All golfing spots are full. Well it's that time again for the annual fall elk golf tournament. We will be honoring wounded warriors and retiring a veteran and this event and look forward to all the fun and fellowship will have together as usual. Dave is making his world famous chili and we've talked to him into 10 lb this year cuz it's so popular. Ricky Layton has stepped up when we needed a hand and is going to cook the vittles for us for our supper. It's going to be an awesome event. I'm proud to be involved in this with my wonderful committee. You'll see us out there in bright red shirts. Thank those who made this possible.... Lastly, I'm going to go ahead and just put the signs that people normally purchase out on the golf course. This event will be pay if you can. And don't worry if you can't, we support you cuz you've supported us. Thanks for everybody's help. All my love, Billy

The Lodge event on 9/30 was a great success thanks to Billy Carrington-Smith for his enthusiastic planning that brought it all together and to Robin Miller for efficiently handling all the paperwork, the 100 tickets sold for the event, and for keeping us all moving in the right directions. And a special 'shout out' to Ricky Layton who prepared and served the pig, the 'fixins', and his now world famous banana pudding! Music performed by Electric Carnival was outstanding and based on all the feedback, we'll have to do it again!

The engraved bricks have arrived and, along with all of the 'blank' ones that will fill out the rest of our new sidewalk, we'll need some volunteers laying them in place. Dean Schaeffer has graciously agreed to prepare the site and direct and supervise the project to ensure a quality outcome. Please let me know if you would like to join the project because 'many hands make light work'!

We still need volunteers to join our Bingo team. This is an important fundraiser that has contributed to upgrades in the Annex and to Elk's charities and we need you to be part of the success!

Thanks,

Gary

Merle is planning a special Bowling event that will raise funds for the ENF! He's asking for 30 folks (friends and family are welcome) to donate $10 each which will go to the ENF. You will receive 2 hours of bowling including shoes and a ball. That's quite a deal for $10 especially when it goes for such a great cause!

The event is planned for Saturday, November 11th, at 1pm, same location as in the past (off of Glenwood). There will be a signup sheet in the Social Quarters and you can pay Merle in advance please (we'll place a pouch with the bartender in case you miss Merle). If you have any questions, please see Merle or contact him at [email protected].

Sign up, come out, have a great time with your fellow members and support the ENF!

This Thursday, October 12th, at 6pm is the seminar that was mentioned in an email a few weeks ago. We have a representative from the State Office of Health Insurance Assistance coming to speak for about 1/2 hour and then answer your questions. With the Medicare open enrollment coming up beginning October 15th, this is a timely and important topic. I've talked to the guest speaker, Rhonda Narron, and she's very knowledgeable and helpful.

So, if you are on Medicare, have questions or are considering Advantage plans, or will become eligible in the future, or are assisting a family member or friend in this area, this seminar should prove very useful. She will also discuss available assistance.

The seminar will be in the Annex and you are welcome to bring a guest(s).

Thanks,

Gary

POOL TEMPORARILY CLOSED- I vacuumed out the pool and have added massive amounts of chlorine to kill any algae and it will take a few days for the chlorine level to get to safe levels, as I am trying to make the pool ready for this Saturday. I am hoping to have it open on Friday, I will send an email, otherwise it will be open for the Pig Picking on Saturday.

PIG PICKIN NOTES- The Pig Pickin dinner starts serving at 5:30 pm, the band will be from 2 to 5. The dinner will be served outside in our new Cabana Shelter, brick patio and some tables will be set up in the grass. We don’t have outdoor chairs that work well in the grass, so you might want to bring a outdoor/camping chair for the grass tables or to watch the band in the grass.

Can’t say enough for this handful of diehard lodge volunteers. Becky Wells Hiller, Liz Mitchell, Gary Bush, Robert McAlister , Dave LeGoullon , Bill Goodwin. With crappy weather (I mean torrential rainfall) we still accomplished getting the pool covered, summer yard ornaments and furniture stowed. We can’t thank you enough, it was a tremendous burden off our minds to get this accomplished.
Thank you for stepping up!
