A few weeks ago, my roommate and I spent a day off at the Met on the Upper East Side. There’s something magical about walking through a museum, surrounded by centuries of creativity and expression. As a photographer, I often find inspiration in classical art masterpieces. Not to replicate them, but to let them inspire my own visions. It’s like having a conversation with the past, where the colors, compositions, and emotions guide me to see the world through a different lens.

And so I found myself in the museum’s “Unpackaging Product Photography” exhibit, gathering inspiration for ways to show ordinary wedding day items as something “enticing” and “experimental”. I especially loved the piece Theatre Accident because as the artist Irving Penn said “the items gathered in one’s pocketbook betray an entire biography.”

I love the way Penn’s photograph tells a story of a pocketbook accidentally tipped over, effortlessly spilling it’s contents in an aesthetically pleasing spray. Instead of just photographing Kristen’s details in a classic flatlay, I used her bridal clutch, lipstick, and other accessories to tell a similar story. In my opinion, it creates a much more interesting and dynamic photograph.

Engagement photos with Danica + Jim in Brooklyn 🏀

Jim was one of Danica’s very first friends when she moved to New York. They met on a basketball court, using offense and defense as an excuse to flirt.

Earlier this year, Danica won my engagement session giveaway for a free photo shoot. We met at the hotel Jim had proposed at and then walked around Dumbo visiting a mix of scenic and nostalgic spots. I love the variety in this area of Brooklyn - we can get “nature” photos with trees and iconic New York City views across the water. We had hoped for a golden hour shoot with the Manhattan skyline, but I think the moody rainy vibes that we got are more their aesthetic anyways!

And yes, it really was a randomized giveaway. No, I did not pick them just because they’re hot 🙄
