DJ El Niño DJ , Music Junkie & Club Promoter El Niño discovered his love and connection with music at a very early age.

DJ El Niño, affectionately known as "El Niño," is a DJ like no other, not only because of his unique skills and trajectory but also because of his tremendous knowledge of the world's music catalog. He was raised in the Bronx by his parents, from the Dominican Republic, a country known for its cultural foothold of hot Latin sounds. His vast exposure to different genres and sounds allowed him to emb

race other cultures, which was instrumental in harvesting an eclectic source of influences. Alongside musicianship, El Niño's positive attitude and resilience have led him to perform at some of the world's top venues. He continues to innovate and maintain an impeccable reputation delivering timeless performances at renowned venues such as Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos in the US and Estadio Pascual Guerrero in Colombia, Where he performed for crowds in excess of 50,000. As the music industry continues to evolve and Latin urban music continues to overtake the throne as the number one genre in the world, El Niño continues to cultivate the DJ culture by maintaining on course with his mission of creating memorable and epic moments via his music.

One of the greatest honors of my career.

This photo was taken after “Reggaetón: Critical Perspectives” at Princeton University. I had the privilege of joining an incredible panel of scholars, journalists, artists, and cultural figures to discuss the rise of reggaetón and its impact on music, culture, race, identity, and society.

What made this invitation even more meaningful was that, leading up to the event, I had been interviewed numerous times for the research that became the book Reggaeton by Raquel Z. Rivera, Wayne Marshall, and Deborah Pacini Hernandez. Those conversations about the genre’s early years, DJ culture, mixtapes, and the movement’s evolution ultimately led to my invitation to participate as a panelist.

At the time, reggaetón was still fighting for recognition in many spaces. To be invited to one of the world’s most prestigious universities to share my experiences and contribute to the historical record of a culture I had lived firsthand was something I never imagined.

Looking back now, knowing how far reggaetón has come, this moment means even more. It’s a reminder that preserving the history of our culture is just as important as creating it.

I’m grateful to everyone involved and proud to have played a small part in documenting the story of reggaetón.
