This one is Ced and me.

Ced, aka Ghost, is my big cousin, but more like an older brother. Me, him, and Shaquinna grew up together on Cleveland St in North Philly.

Years later, Ghost and T started YBME, the first label I was ever signed to. They helped give me one of my first real shots at recording music and reminded me that my story was bigger than what I had already been through.

Some people don’t just show up in your life.

They redirect it.

This one is Mommy and me.

My mom was born and raised in North Philly. I was born there too.

She was 16 years, 8 months, and 1 day old when she had me, and still found a way to go to college, work jobs, take me with her some days, and make sure I had educational opportunities.

Before I understood sacrifice, I was watching it.

Before I understood discipline, I was being raised by it.

Your sacrifices won’t be wasted. I promise.

Uncle Mike was the first DJ I ever met.

Before I knew studios, stages, or the business, I knew what it felt like to be in a room where the music was right.

His record collection kept us entertained for hours. Funk, soul, disco, R&B. Gap Band. Earth, Wind & Fire. September. Chic. The kind of records that made the whole house feel alive.

And he had swag. OG swag. Leather jacket, rings, posture, presence. The kind you can’t fake.

He was Aunt Boo’s husband, but to me, he was one of the first people who showed me how powerful music could be.

I’m grateful I got to tell him how much he shaped my path before he passed.

Rest well, Michael Butler.

I’ll keep the good music going.
