For many, food can be a preservation of culture. From honoring the past to celebrating the present and exploring the future, the best recipes are often the ones we make together. For June Quan, blogger, business owner, and super mom, creating a community built on food and love is a cornerstone of living to the fullest. Hear from June below about how she’s finding joy in life through food and family, and stay tuned for a taste of what it’s like cooking in her kitchen.
“The Chinese food that my mother cooked for us growing up has always been my comfort food. I remember sitting in my highchair using little baby chopsticks to eat noodle soup. My mom told me that even before I could talk, when she asked me if the food was good, I would move my body from side to side and say ‘mmmm’ - that’s something I still do today!
I have always loved food for as far back as I can remember. I fell in love with the entertainment industry, but growing up in a Chinese family, I felt pressure to become a ‘professional.’ To make my parents proud, but also following my own interests, I decided to become an entertainment lawyer. After a couple years working in LA as an entertainment litigator…I decided to quit my job to follow my passion for food.
Taste, smell, and dining experiences are all so personal. One bite may taste completely different to different people based on their preferences and life experiences. At home, I like to share recipes that are not only simple and delicious, but ones that mean something to me.
Food has been such an integral part of my life…that I want my dishes and videos to speak to my community in a deeper way - whether that be encouraging someone to try something new, making someone feel less alone, or being a delicious piece of nostalgia. I wasn’t always proud of my roots and where I come from. It wasn’t until my adulthood that I fully embraced who I am, so I hope that my pride for my culture can help encourage others to love themselves fully no matter what.”
