A major highlight of our year was recognizing local writers and photographers of all ages at the 2025 DWR Awards at Detroit Public Theatre.

All proceeds from the publication support the DWR’s nonprofit arm Coaching Detroit Forward, which offers free writing and photography programs for Detroit youth.

Join us on March 18 for a virtual workshop, “Word by Word: Transforming Good Writing into Great Writing.” ⌨️

The first hurdle of writing is getting it all down. The next step is revising, a.k.a. line editing. Line editing examines your work sentence by sentence, word by word, and elevates it from competent to compelling!

Our workshop is led by New York Writing Room coach Johanie Martinez-Cools, an editor who’s worked with indie authors and publishers alike, including Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan Publishers and more. She’ll help you identify and eliminate common elements that dilute your writing’s impact!

For writers of all genres, you’ll leave this workshop having practiced this essential skill. We encourage you to come with any line editing questions!
