Writers can share work at any stage: early drafts, manuscripts ready to publish and even ideas for stories they want to develop. Feedback is friendly and intended to make your work better!

Coaches include:
📝 Non-Fiction Group Leader - Detroit Writing Room Coach Laura Berman
📝 Fiction Group Leader - New York Writing Room Coach Johanie Martinez-Cools
📝 Substitute Leader - New York Writing Room Coach Amy Parlapiano

What can a coffee cup, a scarf, a photograph or a piece of jewelry reveal about a moment in time, an experience or a special person in your life?

Join essayist and journalist Della Cassia for an interactive workshop exploring the literary technique known as the Objective Correlative — the use of objects to evoke emotion, reveal meaning and deepen storytelling.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a meaningful object. Everyone will leave with new writing, fresh insights and a deeper understanding of how the things we keep can help us tell the stories that matter most.

Thank you to all the writers who attended our first Writers' Supper Club last night at Parc!

A special thank you to writer Jen Williams who was inspired to create this evening after her travels to literary spaces in Europe! There, she saw how writers of the past and present connected over food and drinks in intimate spaces. There, the seed for a Detroit Writers' Supper Club was planted.

We loved getting to know all the writers who attended and engaged in honest conversation about their craft. Something magical happens when you get writers around a table to converse and connect!

Thank you Schuler Books for donating a variety of books for writers to take home and enjoy! 📖

Stay tuned for details of a future Writers' Supper Club meetup. See what else is coming up at detroitwritingroom.com/events.

From our 2026 Journalism Camp:

Cass Tech High School senior Valery Ortiz Sanchez reports on twin sisters Alexka and Angely Jerez-Medina, 18-year-old asylum seekers from Venezuela and Western International High School students, who were detained by ICE in June while traveling to summer job in Buffalo.

The sisters’ detention is another immigration case that’s shaken Southwest Detroit, where many immigrant families face uncertainty despite contributing to the city’s workforce, schools, and neighborhoods.

Community members say the case reflects a growing pattern of immigration enforcement that is affecting students, families, and educators in the city.

Read more in Planet Detroit and the next print issue of EL CENTRAL Hispanic News!

The detention of twin sisters by ICE while traveling to summer job illustrates fear of enforcement in Southwest Detroit community.
