One of the best parts about exhibiting at the Council of Michigan Foundations is that they have an area set aside for puppy cuddling! 🐾🐩

To the friends and family of our staff, thank you for being so patient with us during the corporate event busy season! We were in and out of so many events this week. (Long hours!)

Monday's Event Topic: How to improve social safety nets. (Studies show many American households would struggle to cover an unexpected $400 emergency expense)

Tuesday and Wednesday: The skilled trades gap and what Ford and others are doing to reduce it. Discussions with Ford Executive Chair Bill Ford, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Google President Ruth Porat and Carhartt CEO Linda Hubbard.

Plus: How the James Beard Foundation supports independent restaurants nationwide with advocacy, research and education. Bonus - Having our favorite Detroit chefs on hand to share their culinary journeys and delicious food 🦞 🍷

Thursday: Off to Ohio to discuss the economic value of public art and museums in the morning, and then spent the afternoon learning about challenges in the oil and gas industry.

Friday: Recap, rest, repeat.

See you all on the other side of this sprint. We promise we love you. We just might not remember what you told us 5 minutes ago.

Grand openings don’t just happen.

They start with a lot of people behind the scenes making sure every detail is ready for opening day.

Planning? Kinda.
Problem-solving? Kinda.
Running in 12 directions at once? Kinda.
Chic? Kinda. 😎

Our Special D Events team is onsite and hard at work getting ready for the grand opening of COSM Detroit.

And we can’t wait to see it all come together.

When you ask your Detroit florist to honor Tyree Guyton and the Heidelberg Project and she brings his work to life with wildflowers and "polka dots". Thank you Ida Flora!

When Somerset Collection opened, Special D Events was a brand new woman-owned agency located in Troy. To say our staff was excited about this development was an understatement. In celebration, our co-owners Denise Rondo and Carol Wolfe Galle closed the office for the day so everyone could go shopping.

The Somerset Collection in Troy turns 30, celebrating its north side opening on Aug. 16, 1996, as one of the most successful malls in the U.S.

Have you ever come across an event planning term that make you stop and Google it? Planning an event sometimes feels like learning another language.

Attrition.
Concessions.
Slippage.
CMP.
Force majeure.

Understanding common hospitality terms can make contract negotiations easier, help you avoid costly misunderstandings, and make conversations with venues and vendors much smoother.

That's why we created a free Hospitality Terms Guide—a quick, practical reference you can keep handy whenever you're planning an event.

Interested in volunteering this summer? Look no further! 🤩☀

This week our team had the chance to volunteer with the Pope Francis Center to support their mission of eradicating homelessness in Detroit. Visit their profile to learn more about their organization and sign up for a shift on their website.

We appreciate opportunities like these to support our nonprofit clients and their meaningful work. Thank you for having us!
