When a venue has never hosted a wedding before, the job is not just figuring out logistics. It is thinking through the entire guest experience from start to finish.
This wedding at AIRE Ancient Baths Chicago required us to rethink what a wedding day could look like in a very real, practical way. Swimsuits, water, steam rooms, and a ceremony that actually happened in the baths themselves is incredible, but only if the day flows in a way that feels comfortable and intuitive for guests.
We intentionally scheduled a late morning arrival so guests could ease into the experience. When they arrived, they were greeted with passed appetizers and mocktails before heading into the locker rooms to change. From there, everyone moved downstairs into the bathhouse, where we created cushioned seating around the pools so guests could comfortably gather while the couple exchanged vows in the water. After the ceremony, guests were invited to fully enjoy the baths and steam rooms, with wine and wellness tonics passed throughout the space.
Because we knew guests would be relaxedย and...well, kinda wet. Definitelyย ready for a break before the next part of the celebrationย soย we built in downtimeย for that. Guests left with curated gourmet to-go lunches so they could head back to their hotels, rest, and get ready for the evening.
That break made the transition into the second part of the day feel intentional rather than rushed. We regrouped later for cocktails and dinner at Mott's St, with everyone refreshed, dressedย to the nines, and ready to settle into a completely different energy for the night.
This is the part of event production that matters most to me. Not just creating something unique, but making sure the day actually makes sense for the people experiencing it. When the flow is thoughtful, the experience feels effortless, even when it is something guests have never done before.
