Back on the islands, my family would look forward to my cousin,Ate Lyn. She would visit us from Davao bringing tasty “pasalubongs” for the whole family to enjoy. Large boxes and crates of durian, pomelos,durian candies and everyone’s favorite: fish collars. Davao, being one of the top exporters in Asia of Bluefin Tuna, nothing came close to getting the best quality of fish around. We would throw it on the grill and season with sea salt, let it grill until it would get crispy and a little bit of char on the outside, cut some calamansi and mix with soy sauce, garnished with chopped “siling labuyo”, get a scoop of steaming white rice and pop a bottle of some ice cold beer.
“Hay naku, sobrang sarap!” (Oh my, So delicious!).

Meet the duo behind Mekeni Filipino Kitchen!

We are a husband & wife team. John Richard was born and raised in the culinary capital of the Philippines, Pampanga (Macabebe, to be exact). Marie is a true born Texan, 1st generation FIL-AM. Los Angeles was where we met and fell in love. After more than 14 years in the City of Angels, we now call Dallas our home. We LOVE the Philippines SO much we go ‘home’ every other year. We are inspired by every trip back. Because both of our families hail from Pampanga, we were brought up around amazing food. We are excited to share our love for the Philippines with YOU through our cooking. Mekeni is a Kapampangan word meaning “Come here / Come Toward”. We invite you and welcome you to come eat at our kitchen.
