A school picture company lost me over a napkin. Read Below ( Photo for Attention)
Years ago, when one of my kids was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade, school picture day came around.
And like a responsible parent, I had him READY.
Fresh haircut.
Clean clothes.
Looking good.
Because I already knew in a few weeks they were going to send home that little packet basically asking me to take out a second mortgage for 2 wallet-sized pictures and a 5x7.
But whatever. Those are the memories, right?
Then the proof came home.
My child apparently took his pictures AFTER LUNCH.
And there it was. Ketchup. Sauce. Something. Right. On. His. Face. And I'm looking at this picture thinking... There was a whole PHOTOGRAPHER standing there.
Not one person could've said: "Hey little man...wipe your face." Nope. CLICK. Perfect. Next !!!
And here's the part that sent me over the edge...
They offered to RETOUCH IT for an additional charge.
Sir!!!!
You want me to pay you extra money to digitally remove something that a 2-cent tissue could've handled BEFORE YOU TOOK THE PICTURE?! That was the day school picture companies lost me.
And honestly, it's one of the reasons I've been thinking about offering School Picture Sessions at my studio.Not trying to reinvent the wheel here.Just simple, good school pictures of your kids.Except YOU pick the day.
Fresh haircut scheduled? Come then.Girls getting their hair done Saturday? Come Monday Not wait till Wednesday.
Your kid woke up looking like they fought a ceiling fan? Don't come that day. 😂 Reschedule.
And if your child has ketchup on their face... I promise you...
I own napkins.
You'll get digital images, so you're not locked into buying some giant package with 47 wallet prints you will still be finding in a drawer when they're 32 years old. Print them with me if you want. Print them somewhere else if you want.
Send them to Grandma. Make it your phone wallpaper.
Put it on the refrigerator. Whatever you want. They're yours.
I'm thinking about putting together a really affordable Back-to-School Picture Day at the studio* for parents who want the yearly school picture without the school-picture-company experience. Anyway… that’s my school picture trauma. Now I’m doing something about it
