Last night the Caswell House of hosted the Classes of 1980-84 Westlake Hyline Alumni Reunion, and what a fun evening it was!

The house was filled with old friends catching up, sharing memories, lots of laughter, and, of course, dancing. It was a wonderful reminder that the Caswell House is just the right size for these kinds of gatherings. With both floors open, guests could visit in smaller groups, explore the house, or head upstairs where there was plenty of room to dance.

Seeing a historic home filled with so much joy is amazing. Thank you to the Hyline alumni for choosing the Caswell House to celebrate your friendships and memories. It was an honor to have you here, and I hope you’ll come back again!

The Austin Junior Forum (AJF) Follies was a popular, large-scale musical and theatrical variety show hosted by the Austin Junior Forum during the late 1970s and 1980s.


Staged as a volunteer-driven, community-wide event, the production featured AJF members acting, singing, and dancing in comedic skits to raise money for local charities. Held at Austin’s Palmer Events center.

The Follies served as one of the organization’s major philanthropic and social gatherings during its earlier decades in Austin.

The forum itself was founded in 1969. Proceeds from spectacular, community-oriented productions like the Follies helped the organization establish its roots, ultimately allowing them to acquire and restore the historic Daniel H. Caswell House on 15th Street.

Another glimpse into the incredible restoration of the Daniel H. Caswell House!

This historic newspaper clipping from 1981 captures Austin Junior Forum members and their families volunteering countless hours to carefully remove plaster by hand, helping save thousands of dollars during the restoration of this beautiful 1899 home.

Fueled by grants, community donations, and fundraising events, their dedication ensured the Caswell House would become the community treasure it is today.

Every room tells a story, not just of the Caswell family, but of the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to preserve Austin’s history for future generations.

Thank you to everyone whose hard work and generosity made this landmark possible.

Did you know that William and Ann Caswell were devoted cat lovers? This photo is from the archives taken in 1906 on the grounds of the Caswell house.

One of our favorite things about the Caswell House is discovering the little details that made this family so special. A visit to the Austin History Center can uncover incredible stories, photographs, and treasures from Austin’s past—you never know what you might find!
