Looking back - part 2. Over all these years, what I feel most is gratitude for the people who have been part of it.

There have been so many people who have quietly helped along the way - family and friends who looked after Finnian when he was little so I could work, people who came in early or stayed late, helped with flowers, loaded vans, climbed ladders, worked through installs and came back again for the pack-out.

Then there are the wonderful people who have worked alongside me over the years, our suppliers who have gone out of their way to help, and the clients who trusted me - often coming back again and again, and recommending us to others.

Some people have been part of the journey for a short time, others for many years, and there are some very special people who are sadly no longer here, but who I still think about with enormous fondness.

When I look back, I realise just how many people have contributed in their own way.

Kim Chan Events may have my name on it, but it has never just been about me.

I’ve been very lucky, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the story.... long may it continue x

Our large tree installation is such a versatile prop, able to be transformed to suit so many occasions and themes. From spring blossom to autumn leaves, Christmas styling to jungle-inspired creations, it can tell a completely different story each time.

Trees symbolise strength, resilience and peace — making them a beautiful and meaningful statement piece for any event.

You bring the vision, and we’ll bring it to life.
How could we style this for your next event?

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads, grandads and father figures today.

Father’s Day is a lovely reminder to celebrate them, but I think the people who shape our lives deserve to know they’re valued on all the ordinary days too.

So much of what my Baba (Dad) taught me still turns up in my life and my work - sometimes in ways I don’t even realise until much later.

The older I get, the more I understand that what people give us isn’t necessarily things. It’s the standards they set, the confidence they gave us, the stories we remember and the little pieces of them we carry forward.

So celebrate them today - but perhaps tell them on an ordinary Tuesday too.

Those ordinary days turn out to be pretty special. x

A little workroom teamwork 💐

When there are lots of different jobs, events and priorities on the go, everyone jumps in and helps where needed. From florals to finishing touches, it’s all hands on deck to get everything ready and out the door.

Since sharing a little about 15 years of Kim Chan Events, I’ve found myself thinking about where it all actually began - and all the people who have been part of the journey along the way.

The truth is, the story started well before Kim Chan Events.

One of my very first clients was Harcourts Accomodation Centre. My Baba (Dad) was a client of theirs and "persuaded" Pat Bowden to let me do their flowers - something I'm sure that they didn't even think they needed. I’m not entirely sure what he said to convince her, but he was always a good talker! Mike Hammel had Ginger Meggs so he was another client

Then in 1994 came one of my first real opportunity - the opening of Christchurch Casino.

There was no great plan for where it would all lead. One job led to another, people gave me opportunities, recommended me, helped me and trusted me.
I am forever grateful for being given an opportunity and a chance, something that I have tried to do for people around me wherever I can.

Looking back, there are so many people and little stories that have been part of it.

I thought I might share a few of them... stay tuned for more

**The picture featured here is one from when I was in HK, looking back I dont have any photos from "the old days" back then I didn't even have a computer; I used to send invoices by pen and paper and use a fax machine!

A fresh courtyard update at No.4 Merivale 🌿

Four oversized white pots planted with Michelias and soft white alyssum now bring structure and greenery through the space, alongside a refreshed foliage wall to give the courtyard a more lush, welcoming feel.

Small changes, thoughtfully considered, can completely shift how a space feels.

After years of buying flowers at the market — in person or online — one of the loveliest things is still feeling the seasons change through what becomes available. 🌿
Orchids are having a moment right now, and these rich chocolate beauties were far too gorgeous to leave behind. 🤎
