Can I be honest?

One of the biggest mistakes I see is couples booking a venue because they love how it looks, without thinking about whether it actually works for the wedding they’re planning.

Before you pay the deposit, ask yourself:

🤍 Will it work for your guest numbers?
🤍 Does the layout suit your vision?
🤍 Are there any supplier or styling restrictions?
🤍 Do you have enough time for setup?

These aren’t the exciting questions, but they’re the ones that can save you a lot of stress later.

Have you seen the latest consultation on Reforming Wedding Law in England & Wales? 💍

You’ve probably already seen the headlines about weddings potentially becoming more flexible, more affordable and giving couples greater choice over where they can legally marry.

Personally, I think it’s a positive step. So much of our current wedding law is based on legislation that’s over 200 years old, and the way couples celebrate today has evolved.

But it got me thinking...

What could this mean for couples planning traditional weddings?

For many African, Caribbean and multicultural couples, the traditional ceremony isn’t just another part of the day, it’s the heart of the celebration. It’s where culture, family and heritage come together.

One of the proposals is to create a more flexible system that better reflects couples’ faith, culture, beliefs and traditions, while also reducing the need for separate ceremonies in some situations.

Now, to be clear... nothing has changed yet.

These are proposed reforms that are currently under consultation, and there are still many details to be worked through before any changes become law.

As someone who works with couples planning beautiful cultural weddings, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on how this develops.
