Wimbledon's long finished and the US Open starts Sunday. Our resident tennis fans loved helping build this court-themed table 🎾

Tables London came to us needing two dining tables, each about 9m × 4m, for a dinner in the courtyard at Rosewood London. Steeldeck platforms are built to carry heavy loads, so this was not a typical application of our decks. It was a real pleasure to work on with Tables London, who saw the design and finishing through!

The finished product always makes the job look easier than it was. There were a lot of variables: how far the skin should overhang the frame, how smooth the finish needed to be for people eating off it, and how to level the tables on uneven courtyard ground, which in the end took flanged legs and screw jacks.

Introducing Ben! 👋

Ben Stephen joined us this year as General Manager, bringing over 25 years in events with him — from large format outdoor events to the Edinburgh Fringe, a decade as Technical Director of the Albany, Head of Projects at Lamp & Pencil and many years ago a BDM at Stage Electrics.

Today, he leads our London operations, overseeing the warehouse, build crew, transport and logistics, alongside HR, training and health and safety across the site (imagine the statue of Atlas holding up the heavens)

One recent favourite Steeldeck moment was building bespoke outdoor dining tables for a tennis-themed lunch at the Rosewood Hotel: "Another novel use of our platforms and carpentry skills to create a truly memorable event with a fast, practical and reliable solution. The finished look was absolutely stunning."

290m² of level viewing platform. On a golf course. ⛳

We worked with Setsquare Creative on LIV Golf at JCB Golf and Country Club, building a series of raised platforms for spectators looking out over the green — including one sited in front of a mobile pub and one for a VIP area that took a roof structure.

- Three raised crowd platforms, plus a separate deck for the Long Putt competition
- Ground levels moved constantly, so bracing and ballast were engineer-assessed against slipping on the steeper slopes
- High expected capacity on some platforms drove both the deck layout and the guardrail design
- Battening fitted around the deck edge so the client could attach their branding

Staging for a live broadcast closing ceremony 🏆

We supplied the staging for the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 Closing Ceremony at the OVO Hydro, working alongside Cutting Edge Scenery, People and Co and Wonder Works. Every piece had to roll into the arena and be assembled in a four-hour window before the show.

What made this one tricky:

- Four large stage platforms, an accessible ramp and 8 rolling risers, all built on castors
- Kit pre-built outside the arena over 2 x 8-hour overnight calls, then rolled in
- Custom-cut leg heights so every LED floor level sat exactly right
- Castors reduce a deck's load rating, so our engineers re-rated the design for its intended use

Over 1,000 seats in a sports hall with no permanent fixtures 💺

We recently delivered, installed and finished tiered and flat-floor seating for HRUC's Uxbridge campus — turning their sports hall into a full-capacity venue for the day, ready to switch straight back for term time.

A few things that made this one interesting:

- Three raked tiers holding 600 seats, combined with 420 flat-floor seats
- Centura upholstered seating on the flat floor, with box seats on the tiers after a stock shortage forced a switch
- A 10-hour build and an 8-hour de-rig either side of the event

No two events are exactly the same. We built the platform for an AV and projections event at the Grand Hall, Connaught Rooms, on behalf of the London School of Economics:

• A 40ft-wide, 16ft-deep platform in Steeldeck's 8x4 boards
• 18mm ply front kickboard coach-bolted to decks
• A full wheelchair ramp and landing built in and painted to match

London's most anticipated new music venue opened this year — and we were in there early. 🎶
AEG Presents brought Yandel's SINFÓNICO Tour to British Airways ARC, Olympia London's new 3,800-capacity venue — we built the full tiered orchestra risers for the production ahead of the artist's first UK date, complete with guard rails, steel treads and tread hand rails.
Scheduling was tight, with the build and strike happening on the same day as the performance, but the outcome was amazing. Nothing like reggaeton with a live orchestra!

Building at the Royal Victoria Dock was a nice change of pace!

The North Face Climb Festival returned last weekend — a two-day celebration of climbing and culture featuring world-class Deep Water Solo competitors on a 14-metre wall built directly above the water. 🧗

Our job: Levelling a steep dock slipway to support a trailer-mounted LED screen — ballasted, reinforced with double birch ply.

Four-hour build. Zero margin for error next to an open dock 🌊

A complex brief in one of London's most demanding large-scale venues. 🏛️

We were commissioned to deliver a multi-level curved stage build in the Auditorium at ExCeL London — a 59ft-wide main stage platform with tiered seating risers and an integrated step-unit system.

What the build involved:

• Main stage footprint: 59ft × 40ft, built from modular Steeldeck platforms
• Five-tier seating riser configuration, with curved sections throughout
• Curved step units with 200mm risers, finished to follow the stage geometry

The result: a seamless, fully accessible performance platform — curved, tiered and designed to spec.
