“I’d like a really big bouquet, for £20/30/40…”
I hear this a lot — and honestly, I completely understand it.
I remember what £20 used to buy too.
But £30/40/50 today simply isn’t the same as it was 5 or 10 years ago.
Milk is more expensive.
Petrol is more expensive.
Coffee is more expensive.
Wages, rent, packaging, energy, transport and pretty much every business expense are higher too.
And flowers are no different.
The difficult thing with flowers is that you can’t really “make” a bouquet cheaper in the same way you might with other products. If the cost of the flowers goes up, something has to give — either the price goes up, or the number of stems comes down.
And as florists, we’re constantly trying to balance the two while still creating something beautiful and giving you as much value as possible.
So yes… sometimes the bouquet looks smaller than the bouquet you remember from years ago.
But that’s because £30/40/50 doesn’t go as far as it used to.
I thought this was really interesting to put into perspective — and I’d love to know if you’ve noticed the same thing with other things you buy regularly. Fellow florists, how are you navigating people’s expectations?
