Presenting wonderful music in Vancouver since 2013. Since August 2024, the organization has been led by internationally-acclaimed Canadian pianist Avan Yu.

Muzewest Concerts Society was founded in 2013 by an elementary school teacher and passionate music lover, Jennifer West, who set out to create an organization with the goal of bringing exceptional but underrepresented local and regional Canadian artists, their music, and their new creations to the audiences in the Lower Mainland, while ensuring that the concerts remained affordable and accessible. As Muzewest grew, it cultivated relationships with regional educators, musicians, all the while developing a loyal audience base and a reputation for consistently delivering quality performances and for the commissioning of new Canadian works. After becoming a non-profit society in 2019 and a registered charity since July 2024, Muzewest Concerts has received regular support for its work through grants given by, among others, the Canada Council for the Arts, SOCAN Foundation, BC Arts Council, City of Vancouver, as well as small donations by private individuals. The expanded resources meant that Muzewest Concerts was able to support more Canadian artists through its activities. Throughout the pandemic, it provided a platform for artists to perform online, while compensating them fairly for their work. Muzewest has also organized various education events for young music students, connecting them with prominent pedagogues from different parts of the world. Since its inception, Muzewest has welcomed more than 1300 participants to its educational events, presenting masterclasses in which young talents, performing in front of a supportive audience, receive mentorship and instruction from established master artists.

Meet the next generation of classical music.

We’re excited to welcome 19-year-old flute prodigy Melody to Vancouver on January 31, 2026 🎶

Now based in Paris, Melody is part of a new wave of young artists redefining what classical performance looks and sounds like today. She joins Vancouver pianist Lucas Wong for a recital featuring bold, expressive works for the flute.

Thank you to everyone who attended 2025 Honens Gold Laureate, Canadian pianist Élisabeth Pion’s Vancouver debut recital at the Annex last weekend. Her visit was short, but still managed to sample a Hong Kong dessert and teach four local piano students at Tom Lee Music Downtown.

At Muzewest, we are very proud to partner with such an internationally recognized institution such as and to be able to provide the opportunity for four local talents to work with such an amazing musician. We are continuing our mission to serve the youth and our season opening could not be a better example of that.

Special thank you to our season sponsor for hosting the masterclass and to for being a partner in our Beyond the Notes series.

With Leila Getz

The topic: "What defines success in music? Is talent enough?"

10/20/2025

In a time when so much of life happens online, genuine human connection has never been more vital. That’s what inspired Beyond the Notes — a new series (presented in partnership with the Vancouver Westcoast Music Society) that brings people together to learn, reflect, and connect through music.

We’re opening with a true icon: Leila Getz, founder and artistic director of the Vancouver Recital Society, speaking on “Is Talent Enough? What Defines Success in Music Today.”

For over 45 years, Leila has discovered and championed artists who’ve gone on to become household names. Currently serving as a juror for the 2025 Honens International Piano Competition, she brings a lifetime of insight to one of the most important conversations in music today.
