Hey friends!
An update:
Going forward, we won't be allowing any general filming or photography of performances at the Open Mic. If you are attending with someone and they explicitly give you consent to film them or take pictures of them with their own phone/camera or yours, this of course is absolutely still welcome. It's important for us that individuals capture whatever they wish of their own performances, but it's also important that nobody feels that their art may be documented no matter what.
Galen, Christianne and I know that folks often choose to bring very intimate and personal pieces of art to the Open Mic that they intentionally don't share anywhere else, and we want to keep providing a space for these private, ephemeral performances.
I know from my years with the Poetry Slam and from other events that it's just a default offering of general filming that you can opt out of, but that's never been a priority or interest for us at the Open Mic, as organizers or for our attendees.
Any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Galen or myself (Kelsey).
Happy Holidays, and see you all on January 10th!
Galen Lewis-Chan, Kelsey Savage, and Christianne.
