Made on the Rock, the brand - part 9
Evidence suggests, we are entering another Renaissance period. This is very good for creatives.
Authentic handmade goods and original works of art are the new luxury.
With AI, self check outs, automated everything, connection to authentic, made by a human, one-of-a-kind pieces, is becoming more and more desirable. Original works from a tiny island in the Salish Sea…whoa Nellie that’s cachet.
Made on the Rock is not about production lines or volume. It is for the creator who is motivated to sell. Where creating is not a hobby, not only a practice, but a source of income.
Maybe you have three pieces you’d like to sell. Great. If they all sell - there’s a message below the photos of sold works: come back later I’m creating. Economics - the law of supply and demand.
It’s not commercialization. It’s umbrella marketing. It’s a hub where Gabriola creators can present themselves to find new clients. It’s for creators who want to sell what they make and 4500 island folks are not a large enough market because, let’s be honest, it’s saturated.
I’m only writing a business plan at the moment.
Searching high and low for interested people to give feedback. I’m not using the typical model of writing up all my expenses and deciding how much to charge to cover them. No. I need to know what the market will accept. What works. Then I can start to build the financial picture.
I cannot move forward until I know two things:
1. How many creators are interested, for real, where art/music/handmade goods/creating is their business.
2. What they are willing to pay for what, and their view of success, throw in how long they will give it a try.
But Carol, many of us are so busy preparing for Tour, why is your meeting September 30th??? I have a deadline. The program I’m in has goal posts and unfortunately, this is the reality.
September 30th, at 7pm
Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre
I hope you can spare the time to be a part of the discussion. What I’m proposing does not fall under the mission/mandate for GAC or the Chamber. No lines are being crossed, collaborations are being discussed.
