The Prohibition Era in the United States, lasting from 1920 to 1933, was a time when the government made the production, sale, and transportation of alcohol illegal. This law was meant to reduce crime, improve public health, and strengthen morality, instead, it led to unintended consequences. People continued to engage in secret, leading to the rise of illegal bars called speakeasies and organized crime. Famous criminals, like Al Capone, made fortunes smuggling alcohol and running bootlegging operations, creating an underground industry that law enforcement struggled to control. The era highlighted a clash between conservative values and the desire for personal freedom.
The 1920s were also known as the "Roaring Twenties" because of the rapid social and cultural changes that took place. After World War I, people were ready to celebrate, and the economy boomed. Jazz music became the soundtrack of the decade, and the popularity of dance clubs, parties, and new forms of entertainment, like movies, reflected the sense of fun and freedom people sought. Women gained more independence, symbolized by the rise of the flapper, a new fashion and lifestyle trend that rejected traditional norms. It was a time of technological advances, like the car and radio, that brought people closer together and created a modern, fast-paced society, filled with energy and excitement.
