Serendipitous! Image – this one is a standout from our photo shoot of the project – the backstory about this background is that a couple of years ago I was doing a shoot which required a lot of food, berries and chocolate and syrup and sludge to be splattered over a particular background. I assumed it would all wash off okay? However I assumed wrong! And after awhile being stored in our outdoor and covered background storage area which we have actually named the resort did I know the background started to go mouldy and grungy. We kept it as one day we could paint over it with fresh paint as it had a great texture… Thank God we never painted over it as this is the result. And. My clever partner in crime worked her magic by propping it with some incredible Ethiopian horn spoons. Really love this pic and what’s really awesome is I suggested the Prop that goes in the middle dish which is shellac – beetle wings Used for polishing wood with. I bought out an op shop many years ago in a jar… One of the other images in the slider features a voodoo rock from West Africa from a trip from about 30 years ago. From a market in being in from memory. So there you go – I think you should all rush out and buy a copy of this bad boy!

My amazing Father and our family in Ethiopia in 2007.

Here we all are 14 years ago in Ethiopia for dad‘s 70th birthday party. The Joe Filshie family had decided to go and live in Ethiopia for a year and at the time we didn’t realise we would miss my dad 70th birthday so he had a wonderful idea - as we couldn’t be with him for the 70th he would fly over to join us with all the rest of the Filshie family. Needless to say we had the most incredible time showing them around and going on a 12 day tour of the country to see some incredible sites and have a ball with the locals. We took this photo in a beautiful village of Wondo Genet, A hot springs, jungle, resort get away which is in the rift Valley in Southern Ethiopia. It translates to man’s paradise and this photograph is testament to what an awesome gesture it was to bring the whole family together and celebrate in this special part of the world. The second photograph has been taken outside the special room in the government hotel that the last Emperor Haile Selassie used to stay in when he went on holidays to Wondo Genet. Mum and dad were lucky enough to stay in this room and sleep in his bed!
The whole year living in Ethiopia was life changing and to have the whole family come over topped it off and made it so memorable. For my kids to play with their cousins – to be able to hang out with my siblings and Mum and Dad… Loads of fond memories and funny little stories as you can imagine….
