🌅 The Skywhales Are Finally Coming to the Sunshine Coast! 🐋✨…and artist Patricia Piccinini will be here too!
Skywhale and Skywhalepapa, Patricia Piccinini’s monumental hot-air balloon sculptures, will take flight at dawn on Sunday 17 August at UniSC, Sunshine Coast.
Originally scheduled during Horizon 2025, this unforgettable event was postponed due to weather — but we’re thrilled to announce its return!
Patricia Piccinini will also be joining us for a special in-person artist talk over the same weekend.
Bring the family, pack a picnic, and witness these gentle giants float across the morning sky.

Skywhales Across Australia is a National Gallery Touring Event, supported by the Australian Government through Visions of Australia and the National Collecting Institutions Touring Outreach Program.
Skywhales is the third instalment of The Balnaves Contemporary Series and is a Know My Name project.
Skywhales Sunshine Coast is presented by Horizon in partnership with Caloundra Regional Gallery and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
