Coolangatta Estate (est. 1822) is the site of the first European settlement on the South Coast of NSW — and has been proudly family-run by the Bishop family since 1947. Home to the most awarded winery on the South Coast, Coolangatta Estate is where history and hospitality come together.

It's hard to believe these photos are of the same building.

Built in the early 1800s, this chapel served the original Coolangatta Estate settlement and was once consecrated Anglican ground. For generations, it welcomed convicts, settlers and station workers through its doors, becoming an important part of daily life on the Estate.

The second photograph shows a building that had fallen into significant disrepair. Time, weather and changing fortunes had taken their toll, and for a period it seemed this piece of history might be lost forever.

Thankfully, it wasn't.

Today, the chapel remains one of the oldest surviving buildings on the property and a tangible link to Coolangatta's past. Over the years, it has witnessed countless baptisms, weddings and family milestones, including generations of the Bishop family.
