The Dua Lipa effect: registry office or celebrant?

If you’ve seen the photos of Dua Lipa stepping out of London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall in custom Schiaparelli last week, you’ll know exactly why we’re having this conversation.

A civil ceremony. Seven guests. One very intentional outfit. And suddenly the registry office is having a moment.

It’s the question every couple weighs up at some point — registry office or private celebrant? Both lead to the same beautiful outcome. But the experience can feel very different.

We’ve pulled together insights from some of our favourite celebrants and photographers to help you decide which option fits the way you want to mark the day.

Looking for a Melbourne wedding photographer, and maybe, a videographer? Meet Alex of .by.alex.

Alex came to photography from behind a video camera. Initially drawn to video because of the movement, light, and the way emotion plays out in real time. His love of photography developed as an extension of this, a way to freeze the same honest moments he’d been capturing in motion.

Both disciplines now sit within the one practice, and Alex offers either, or both, with solo and duo coverage across Melbourne and Victoria.

Alex’s images carry a sense of stillness drawn from film; the welcoming embrace, lingering glance and quiet gesture that translates into volumes of emotion.

Behind the scenes, his couples talk about how easy he is to have around. Calm, unobtrusive and genuinely interested in what matters to you.

A photographer for couples who want their day remembered the way they lived it. Honest, emotional, and built to outlast trends.

Chloe + Jacob 🤍

Timeless, sentimental and effortlessly elegant — their wedding at @‌clevelandestate was the perfect blend of sophistication and heart.

From a beautifully styled ceremony through to a warm, wood-toned reception, the entire day unfolded with understated romance and modern elegance.

Chloe looked incredible in a hand-pleated tulle gown that moved like a dream, while every moment was captured so beautifully by @‌white_shutter_photography 🤍

The registry vs celebrant conversation deserves nuance beyond just budget.

And yes, a registry ceremony is (in most cases) more affordable. But that’s only one part of the decision.

What I wanted to talk about in this reel is what each option gives you, not what it takes away. Because they’re beautifully different experiences, and both have value depending on what you’re looking for on your wedding day.

We go deeper into this in this week’s newsletter, including insights from some of our experts on what couples don’t always realise until after they’ve made their choice.

Dua Lipa just made the case for the bridal blazer ✨

She said “I do” in custom Schiaparelli, a wide-brimmed hat and white gloves, and is a case in point of how a registry ceremony can feel ultra-chic and impactful.

(More on registry ceremonies from me in tonight’s reel.)

Dua Lipa married actor Callum Turner at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on Sunday, stepping out to confetti in a tailored ivory blazer with a sculpted asymmetric skirt by Schiaparelli, Christian Louboutin pumps and a Bulgari serpent necklace.

It’s giving contemporary bridal; bold personality, tailored style and nod to her own style icons.

Vogue credits Dua Lipa’s reference point to Bianca Jagger, 1971 - also a blazer, also a hat; a fit that made bridal cool.

Almost 55 years on, the cool-girl bridal torch has been passed.

Generosity as a wedding planning theme has given me pause, and I love it the more I think about it.

Kathryn and Kiran planned their entire wedding in six months, chose a King Valley winery with personal ties to the region, and built every detail around one brief: make it feel like the best dinner party you’ve ever been to.

Black tie, Italo-disco, Italian feasting and festoon lights across the vineyard.

Add in a heap of joy, elevated, intimate vibes and guests who brought the best energy, and you have a celebration that gives as many good feels as it does stunning aesthetics.

Generosity, but make it the aesthetic 🤍✨

Kathryn + Kiran’s celebration at Pizzini Wines was a lesson in joyful abundance - a black-tie Tuscan-inspired dinner party in the King Valley.

Think Italo-disco, endless wine, festoon-lit feasting and a menu guests are still talking about. Nothing held back, everything considered.

Kathryn’s gown, finished with the dreamiest bow detail, brought soft romance to the night, captured beautifully by .

Tucked away in the Macedon Ranges, @‌st.agnesbyprunella is the kind of place that feels like a secret you’re almost hesitant to share 🤍

A restored 1800s country estate where heritage gardens, vineyard views and beautifully considered spaces unfold across every corner.

With signature all-inclusive approach, every detail is thoughtfully curated - from florals and styling to menus and coordination - creating weddings that feel immersive, intentional and entirely unforgettable.

For couples drawn to private, elevated country romance… this is your hidden escape ✨

Wondering whether to wear a wedding veil? You’re not alone. It’s one of the most common questions australian brides ask during the styling process.

I spoke to bridal fashion experts , and about what they’re seeing in 2026: more brides choosing deliberately, exploring alternatives like statement accessories and silk scarves, and investing in custom pieces or personalised elements when they do go the veil route.

Plus real bride stories, including one involving a dad, an aisle, and a very unfortunate step on the tulle.
