Second dresses. We love them.

Whether it’s swapping a dramatic train for something you can dance in, embracing a completely different vibe for the reception, or simply making the most of a once-in-a-lifetime fashion moment, more brides are choosing to make an outfit change before the party gets underway.

Once considered a luxury reserved for celebrity weddings, the second dress has become a popular addition to celebrations of all styles and sizes.

For some, it’s about comfort.
For others, it’s about creating a clear transition between the emotion of the ceremony and the energy of the reception.
And for those who simply can’t choose between two incredible looks, it’s the perfect excuse to wear both.

Of course, it’s not a must. Plenty of brides happily stay in one gown from ceremony to last dance and a veil swap, a statement jacket or a change of shoes can refresh your look just as easily.

Like most wedding decisions, it comes down to your priorities, your budget and your style.

Not sure which camp you’re in? Swipe through for expert tips from d’Italia, and our quick worth-it checklist 👆, then head to the link in our bio for the full second-gown credits.

Two venues in one, and one of our favourite kinds of property 💛 Meet Scrub Hill, a heritage chapel and a glass marquee sharing two acres near Daylesford.

Jente and Emely built it after years in some of Melbourne’s best hospitality venues, and it shows: an 1869 bluestone church and a contemporary glasshouse sitting side by side, so a single day can move from a forest ceremony to dinner under glass without ever leaving the property (aesthetic range without the logistics).

Classic elegance, chic contemporary, stylish rustic or effortless minimalism; whatever the vision, Scrub Hill welcomes it. An elevated experience for all, with beautiful style and low stress.

The brief was simple: nothing should match, and everything should feel like them.

A soft rainbow of bridesmaid dresses, two very different wedding dresses, garden blooms in loose mismatched bouquets, and tables that layered vintage china, coloured glass and taper candles in every shade. Cottagecore, done properly.

When we heard the words cottage-core wedding, we couldn’t click through fast enough. 🌿🤍

Inspired by a collection of vintage plates, Mardi and Sacha created a celebration filled with colour, character and a little beautiful chaos.

When rain arrived just before the ceremony, they simply embraced it, kicking off the festivities with speeches and canapés before saying “I do” once the skies cleared.

From mismatched chairs and handmade oversized flowers to drinks served in wheelbarrows and their beloved groodle, Goose, every detail felt wonderfully personal.

Beautifully led by Precious - Celebrant + MC ✨ and captured by Elsa Campbell | Melbourne Wedding & Elopement Photography, this is one celebration you won’t want to miss.

This might be a controversial take, but I’m quietly a big fan of midweek weddings — and not just for the cost savings, although that’s real.

The thing most couples tell me afterwards is that they didn’t realise how much freedom the decision would give them, including the team of vendors available to choose from.

It starts as a budget decision and becomes a creative one.

Would you consider a midweek wedding? Or is a Saturday non-negotiable for you? 👇

No rulebook. No checklist. Just a wedding day that felt completely like Maddi and Liam. 🤍

From walking down the aisle together, to having their bridal party seated during the ceremony and choosing to spend the night before side by side, they created a celebration centred around what mattered most - their love and the people sharing it with them.

Set among the beauty of @‌mountmacedonwinery the couple embraced a timeless, classic style and let the surrounds do the talking.

Maddi’s strapless gown, her elegant reception scarf and the rich chocolate tones of the bridesmaids added the perfect finishing touches.

A beautiful reminder to do your day, your way.

There’s nothing better than waking up to a stunning set of wedding images (welcome to my life!) and today, Emma Roberts and Cody John’s official wedding images dropped.

Along with the chic fashion moments, I adore that they wrote their vows separately, didn’t share beforehand, and turned up on the day to find they mirrored each other beautifully. Emma said the overlap made the ceremony feel really unique to them.

I see this so often as a celebrant, and it gets me every time. Not a coincidence, just proof you’re both so aligned.

Our kind of photographer, this one 💛 Elsa Campbell | Melbourne Wedding & Elopement Photography makes wedding photography for the colourful romantics — bright, spontaneous, and quietly editorial all at once.

Elsa works by watching, not directing: just enough guidance for beautiful light, never so much that the day stops feeling like yours. What’s left is colour, laughter, and the in-between moments you’d never think to ask for.

Effervescent feel, editorial touch. Get to know Elsa at the link in our bio ✨

The evening began quietly.

A bride reading the menu she chose months ago. A groom reaching for her hand beneath the table.

White roses standing tall in glass vases. Candlelight flickering against marble, brass and dark timber.

Inspired by the golden era of 1960s Italian design, Cecconi’s Toorak is made for contemporary romantics who want their wedding to feel sophisticated, intimate and effortlessly elegant.

Outside, the city moved. Inside, time slowed.

Guests leaned in closer as speeches began. Champagne caught the glow of the chandelier. Laughter spilled across long tables dressed in linen and glass.

Seasonal Italian dishes arrived slowly. Intentionally. Course by course.

For one night, the restaurant became entirely theirs.

From intimate celebrations and long-table dinners to exclusive venue hire, Cecconi’s Toorak offers a timeless setting for couples who believe the atmosphere, the food and the smallest details matter.

Some weddings are loud.
Some are remembered.
This one? Remembered.

Undoubtedly, for many couples there’s a moment in your wedding planning where the budget makes you want to cry. Every line you consider cutting is attached to something you care about: the food, the florals, the photographer whose posts you’ve been saving on Instagram for years in excited anticipation.

There is one factor that moves the total number without compromising on quality, style, or your guest list. That factor is the date — or more precisely, the day of the week you choose to celebrate your wedding.

Midweek weddings have become one of the more admirable decisions, becoming popular in Australian wedding planning, and our venues see first-hand the impact this can have.

I asked the team at Provenance Weddings what they are seeing from couples booking Monday to Thursday dates, and whether the trade-offs couples worry about hold up in practice.
