Over the years, I have experienced just how different every farewell can be, and that's exactly how it should be.

In just the last six months, I've had the privilege of being part of services held in a variety of beautiful and meaningful locations, including Yen Yean Cemetery, Beenak Cemetery, the Royal Mail Hotel in Whittlesea, Crackerjack Beachfront in Seaford, and The Garden Feast in Werribee. Each venue was chosen because it meant something to the family or reflected the person being remembered.

That is what makes a ceremony special.

There is no "right" way to say goodbye. A service can be traditional or contemporary, formal or relaxed. It can be filled with tears, laughter, music, stories, or quiet moments of reflection. The only thing that truly matters is that it reflects the life, personality, and legacy of your loved one.

Please don't stress about what a funeral should be.

If the ceremony feels true to the person you're honouring, then it is perfect.

Because every life deserves a farewell as unique as the life that was lived. ❤️

I am honoured to be leading a service tomorrow for the family of Genevieve Ursula Kirke, who passed away on 18 March 2026.

Jenny was a much-loved mother, grandmother, and family matriarch whose warmth, kindness, and deep love for her family touched all who knew her. It is a privilege to help guide her family and friends as we gather to honour her life, share memories, and celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

My thoughts are with her family at this time, and I am truly grateful to be entrusted with such a meaningful role in celebrating Jenny’s life.

Today we gather to honour and celebrate the life of John Thomas Glover, a devoted husband, proud father, cherished Poppa, Vietnam Veteran, educator, and a truly “rippin’ bloke.”

John’s memorial service will be held this afternoon at 1:00pm at the Geelong RSL. For those who are unable to attend in person, you are warmly invited to join via live stream so you can be part of this special tribute from wherever you are.

Tomorrow i have the honour of leading a service with the assistance of Reverand Troy Harris for the lovely Funeral for Roselyn Ibrahim. Roselyn's story starts on August 14, 1939, when she was born in India to parents Winfred Hussey and Grace Hussey. Roselyn would go on to call Australia home, moving here in 1969. When Roselyn was 31, she married a wonderful man, Naim Ibrahim (Senior). Roselyn became a mother to Naim (Junior), a Nanna to Kirk and Ebony, Mother-In-Law to Samantha. Roselyn was also wonderful sister and an Aunty to many Nieces and Nephews. Roselyn went on to work as an office worker and made her home in St.Kilda West in 1970 for 30 years before residing in Hampton Park in 2000. Roselyn is loved by family and friends alike. She will be missed and always remembered.

Today, I had the honour of assisting the Aldridge family as they gathered to say a loving farewell to their dearly loved husband, father and grandfather, Ben.

The service was held at the beautiful Beenak Cemetery near Hoddles Creek, a quiet country resting place nestled in a picturesque valley, surrounded by untouched bushland and natural flora and fauna. Rich in history, this special place holds the stories of the district’s early settlers and was gazetted as a cemetery on 13 December 1878.

With more than 40 family members and friends in attendance, the farewell was peaceful, heartfelt and deeply meaningful, a fitting tribute to a man who devoted his life to his family, his friendships and the communities he so generously served.

In times of need, the support of family and friends can make all the difference. When someone is grieving or walking through a difficult season, it’s often the quiet, steady presence of others that brings the most comfort.

Supporting someone doesn’t require perfect words — it requires heart, patience, and understanding.

✨ Be present. Make time so conversations don’t feel rushed. Sit with them, check in, and let them know you’re there without judgement.
✨ Listen more than you speak. Allow them to share at their own pace. Often, your presence is far more healing than advice.
✨ Offer practical help. A meal, childcare, or running errands can ease the weight they’re carrying and show genuine care.
✨ Avoid clichés. Phrases like “they’re in a better place” or “time heals all wounds” can unintentionally minimise very real grief.
✨ Acknowledge their feelings. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Let them feel what they feel, without trying to fix it.

Grief and hardship look different for everyone. What matters most is showing up, listening deeply, and walking beside someone — reminding them they are not alone.

As a celebrant, I see the power of this support every day. It’s love in action, and it truly matters. 🤍

Making memories with the people we love is one of life’s greatest gifts. It’s the laughter shared, the quiet moments, the stories told around a table, all the little things that stay with us long after a goodbye.

When it comes time to honour a loved one, I truly believe a ceremony should reflect those memories in meaningful and personal ways. There are so many beautiful ways to bring someone’s story to life during a service. A photo tribute can capture special moments across the years. A memorial table filled with treasured items can offer a gentle glimpse into the life that was lived. Messages written on the coffin can become a powerful expression of love, gratitude, and farewell.

Some families choose to invite guests to plant a flower or small plant in a garden, a living tribute that continues to grow, reminding us that love never really leaves us.

There is no “right” way to say goodbye. What matters most is creating a space where memories are honoured, stories are shared, and hearts feel held.

Some celebrants, like me, have the privilege of serving their communities in more ways than one. For nearly 19 years, I’ve been a volunteer firefighter for the CFA, a role that has deeply shaped who I am and how I show up for others.

There’s something powerful about being able to switch between these two very different but equally meaningful roles. On a hot day, I’m truly grateful to be able to pack up my “office” and set it all up at the fire station, surrounded by a team who share the same commitment to helping others.

Lately I have been reminded of how varied and meaningful my days can be—I cleaned the station, made sure the trucks were ready for whatever might come, responded to a fire call, and in between, I created another funeral ceremony script. Each task may seem different, but they’re all about one thing: being there for people when they need it most.

Whether it’s rushing to a fire to protect lives and homes or helping families honour their loved ones during their darkest days, I feel incredibly blessed to support and love people through it all. These roles have taught me so much about resilience, compassion, and the strength found in community.

Thank you to everyone who allows me to serve in these ways. It’s an honour I don’t take lightly, and I’m grateful every day to make a difference, no matter how big or small.
