Explore the passion and expression of flamenco through dance, rhythm and palmas (handclapping). Workshops for beginners and more experienced dancers!

With Suns of Mercury

Discover the deep African roots of Cuban music through batá drumming, rumba, percussion and dance. An immersive cultural experience with Cuban and Australian artists.

From the streets of Brazil to the sounds of Colombia, Cuba, Chile and Argentina — La Fiesta brings together an incredible lineup of artists for one massive celebration of Latin American music, rhythm and culture in the heart of Canberra! 🇦🇺❤️

🇨🇱 Sorbo Amplio – Melbourne’s Nueva Cumbia crew mixing cumbia, ska, rock and Latin grooves into one big dance party!
🇨🇺 Afro-Cuba by Suns of Mercury – Deep Afro-Cuban traditions meet batá drums, rumba, dance and contemporary electronic sounds.
🎺 The New MonoS – Buenos Aires roots meet multicultural Melbourne in a fusion of cumbia, reggae, rap, rock and South American folklore.
🇧🇷 Samba de Moça – An all-female samba band celebrating Brazilian rhythms, powerful percussion, sisterhood and collective energy.
💃 Kachimbaz – Sydney’s Latin favourites bringing a special set dedicated to salsa and the driving rhythms of Cuban timba.
🇨🇴 Tierra Querida – A vibrant live orchestra celebrating the colour, rhythm and extraordinary musical diversity of Colombia.
🎸 Solquemia – Flamenco guitar meets Latin jazz in a special trio featuring Alejandro Florez, SENES Flamenco, Kekoski Viran.
🥁 Raio de Sol × Bateria 61 + Brass 61 – Canberra and Sydney join forces for an explosive collaboration of samba, batucada, massed percussion and live brass!

Beginner + intermediate flamenco dance, plus a cante flamenco singing + palmas workshop. Explore movement, rhythm, live accompaniment and the connections between flamenco and Latin American music from SENES Flamenco

🇨🇺 CUBAN PERCUSSION + DANCE @ Blank Cultural Platform - 12:00–2:00pm
Dive into Cuban rhythm, movement, rumba and batá with Adrian Hearn, Aloy Junco + “Panga” Hechavarría. Explore the Afro-Cuban traditions behind the music as well as the technique with Suns of Mercury

🇧🇷 PANDEIRU + SAMBA + BEYOND @ Blank Cultural Platform - 2:15–4:45pm
Join Mestre Loki from Movimento Alto and Capoeira Angola Canberra assisted by Raio de Sol, for a hands-on journey through pandeiru, samba, Samba de Roda, movement and Brazilian rhythm. We’ll finish with a participatory roda! Bring your own pandeiru if you have one; some instruments will be provided.

These workshops are about more than learning steps or patterns — they’re a chance to understand the history, culture and living traditions behind the music.

Come for one session or make a full day of it.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Sunday Afternoon Vibes — Rhythms for Relief and helped make the afternoon so special.

We’re really grateful to everyone who danced, supported the bands, bought food, shared the event and, most importantly, donated to the two earthquake relief appeals. We've raised a total of $2927.
