A pastel in limited palette on Clairefontaine pastelmat paper. I’m loving using pastels however the painting is often over too quickly, compared to watercolours.

Now it’s back to a blank piece of watercolour paper and wondering what to paint next.

Here is a pastel painting from a photograph of a floral arrangement from my garden. I’ve been painting a lot of my floral art over the past year.
I been jumping between watercolour, soft pastels, oil pastels and a mix of all 3 sometimes. Often I want to rip them up because they aren’t working out and that’s when the magic happens. I let go and splunge, splosh and ziver the colours around. The made up words describe the feeling best.🤣

What a difference 6 weeks makes on the garden!
The rose is a Cecil Brunner and smells divine when in flower. It requires a lot of trimming back all the time though.

Iris’s are such a strangely cool looking flower. These are from the Chelsea flower show. One of my memories as a 5 year old that is still vivid is standing in wonder amongst a patch of iris in flower. They were taller than me!

My foray into soft pastel painting.
What I learnt is buy good quality proper pastel paper like pastelmat, work with paper upright, to limit dust. Dark colours first then light and a definite shout line or lines.

Sissinghurst castle gardens in Kent was a definite highlight of my trip to England. Now in the care of the National Trust and worth a visit if you’re a garden enthusiast. Lots more photos to come.
Haven’t posted for a while due to work, winter and not being that well. Also I’ve been in a painting rabbit hole.
