Voilà!

The before and after shot of some of the tubers we lifted yesterday.

When we lift them, we give them a day to dry out a bit. The skin on the tubers (tuners 🙂 ) is very delicate and can rub off easily.

Then we gently rinse off each clump and pop them in their own tray to dry for a couple more days in the shed before dividing them.

There’s still some debris, like leaves attached to stalks, I’m not worried about that!

I get asked regularly, why do you always have a coat on Raven? Usually my reason is so I can see him on the field …. Sometimes it’s so I can just see him!

🤣

Here he is, guarding the pile of emergency bird mesh while I wash the dahlia tubers (out of shot). I had no idea he was there until I looked!

You know how you get reminder of things on FB? Well this one had me reflecting and reminded me of where my passion was allowed to finally have wings.

I love growing things: food, flowers, chickens, goats …. As long as it grows, I’m in my happy place.

This was me 11 years ago on a slightly terraced block trialling my first crops beyond what our family would consume. The following year, I set up a 1/8th acre market garden!

And now, it’s flowers! I might just hark back to my market gardening roots this year to add some excitement into the flower patch … what are your garden plans after winter?

When the job looks easy … but you have to repeat it 30 times!

We’ve been lifting out dahlias, one bed at a time. There are about 40-50 clumps in each 10m bed (depending on whether the clump survived the galah attacks in December/January

The trolley Im using holds about 100 nice sized clumps. Tomorrow, these clumps will be rinsed then left to dry on bread trays.

Today is the perfect weeding day at home. After a week of light rain, the weeds just slip out nicely. And I promised myself that I wouldn’t alter the gardens for at least 2 cycles … today some small changes are coming, starting with this space!

We’re prepping for dahlia storage. Today we collected the first load of fresh sawdust. It smells amazing

I also love the size of the equipment being used. This could happily pick up the Ute and trailer without batting an eye lid!

We will be at the Braidwood Markets on Saturday with the last of our Tulip bulbs, Ranunculus corms and iris bulbs.

We will also be running a free dahlia tuber dividing demonstration to anyone who wants to learn. This will be run at 11am, so make sure you're there on time.

If you want to come along to one of our in-depth hands on dahlia dividing workshops, we have availability for all days still ... but June 27th is almost full.

And the last bunch of flowers for the season has been sold!

Thank you to all our supporters. With the crazy year we’ve had, the lesson has been… keep on learning!
