BANGALOW RECORD FAIR — SATURDAY 8 AUGUST

Record collectors, diggers and music lovers — this one’s for you.

As part of Flo Records’ 3rd birthday celebrations, we’re taking over the Bangalow A&I Hall with a huge record fair presented in collaboration with Gold Coast’s Beatmarkt.

Expect new and second-hand vinyl from local and interstate sellers, spanning all styles, tastes and price points.

The celebrations continue at Flo Records from 11am–6pm with a free, family-friendly afternoon of DJs, food and drinks

Then from 6pm, we’re back at the A&I Hall for our ticketed 3rd birthday party featuring special guest Miles Cleret, founder of Soundway Records.

Myles from Public Address Systems recently took the shop speakers to the workshop for an update. After having the system in the shop for over a year, listening to a wide range of music and hosting events in-store, he had a clear idea of how the could adjust the system to our space and tune it to the sounds/music we are most passionate about.

The speakers are now fully active DSP controlled. Baselines are feeling even more punchy, percussion is popping and vocals are clear and present. Such a pleasure to have a dream rig in our shop.

Zig zagging around finding gems we love. Another great batch of music has landed at the shop. Detroit, UK, Canada, Japan and more all represented here. Big tip on Ben Christensen - Here Come The Lions. Described as YMO style dissonant electro on the a side, with pitched down Patrick Cowley psychedelic Macarena on the b side. That’s our cup of tea.

Slowly filling the racks with some class DnB. ‘Suburban Architecture’ are a love letter to the golden days of Drum & Bass. Jazz influenced instrumentation with deep atmospherics. Lush keys packed with melancholic horns and unconventional drums. Full on 90s inspired tackle.

Smerz - Big City Life - equal parts hazy downtown lounge and 80’s ethereal melancholia. The duo from Norway dropped their 3rd LP almost a year ago. It’s been tricky to get copies in as it’s been selling out quite quickly from Distro.. Solid rec here from Barx it was so good to see them play in our neighbourhood!

Tip for the week - Abacus - The Relics E.P.

A timeless balance of groove and emotion. Originally released in 1994 on Chicago’s Prescription Records - this record has gained cult status. Deep & soulful whilst remaining incredibly futuristic sounding. Now fully remastered and reissued on Clone Classic Cuts. Essential listening.
