This mix was recorded at this years edition of Dal Ocal, which is a 5 day gathering/mini festival/doof over New Years Eve that my friends and I put together for our friendship group in Victoria, Australia.
The set was my ode to techno. An opportunity to share my love for it. There were many sets over the week that were more psy or trance oriented, so I used that as motivation to hold down the fort for techno.
The intention was to get everyone dropped into the groove straight away, and patiently build the energy over the 3 hours. I relish the chance to play a longer form set when it presents itself.
You’ll find deep, dubby techno for the first part of the set, before moving into more pumping groovy hypnotic techno realms, with sprinklings of house to brighten the energy as I like to do.
Only a couple of hours before I was scheduled to play, my younger brother Peter was seriously injured on site. It was an intense experience for us all which made it difficult to continue on after seeing him driven away in the ambulance, though just as he wanted most, we celebrated the year in his honour.
