Finally finished the wooden version of my Kings in the Corner board.
This one took a lot more trial and error than I expected, but I’m really happy with how the final design came together.
It’s built from three layers of laser-cut and engraved rosewood, with 3D printed details inset into the center logo and the suits.
A pretty fun mix of laser work and 3D printing in one project.

Ever wonder how long one of the really big 3D print projects actually takes?

This astronaut and rocket set took more than 130 hours of total print time to make.

The astronaut stands about 23 inches tall and the rocket reaches about 28 inches tall, so these are definitely not small prints.

That’s over five straight days of printing if one machine could run nonstop without a break.

And that’s before cleanup, fitting everything together, assembly, and making sure all the pieces come together the way they should.

That’s one of the coolest parts of 3D printing. You start with files on a screen, and a few days later you have a giant finished display sitting in front of you.

Big prints take patience, but watching something this size slowly come together is part of the fun.

This one has been on my idea list for a while and is the main reason why I bought a laser engraver.

I wanted to see what my Kings in the Corner board would look like made from wood instead of fully 3D printed, so I finally completed one and ready to show it off. It isn’t quite ready for the showroom floor, but it’s close.

Laser cut wood, engraved details, 3D printed suit inlays, and a 3D printed center logo. The back even has the South Dakota logo. (Used with permission).
