On August 1923, ground was broken for the Mayo Hotel, 115 West 5th. The Mayo opened its doors on February 18, 1925. Built by brothers John and Cass Mayo with the goals of elegance of decor and fine service, the building was designed by architect George Winkler in the Sullivanesque style of the Chicago School.
