Did I mention that I love print? I really, really do. ❤️

My second Los Angeles Times Entertainment section cover feature in 3.5 weeks—yes, please and thank you! I love my job. 🤩

This conversation started way back in May 2025, and it finally came together with two photo shoots and an in-depth feature on Chevy Metal.

The photos chosen for the feature were from the first shoot, at the band’s show at The Viper Room on 12.31.25, by writer + photographer Steve Appleford. I’ve known Steve FOREVER, so it was especially nice to work with him again on another in-depth feature for the LAT.

The interview was done in person during photo shoot #2, at the drummer Shane’s house & the band’s practice studio space in The Valley, a few weeks before the band’s Viper Room show. Wiley Hodgden, Brent Woods & Shane Hawkins talked about how Chevy Metal originated, and about Shane becoming the powerful new driving force behind the band—pushing them to stick together after the passing of his father, Taylor Hawkins, who originally formed the classic-rock cover band.

The feature also looks at what’s ahead for Chevy Metal over the next six-plus months.

It ran online 1st on 8.13.26 (screenshots included), w/the print edition hitting newsstands 2 days later, 8.15.26. The feature helped advance the band’s show at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach on 8.15.26.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Bleed American has received its own documentary treatment of sorts, as Jimmy Eat World is breaking down each song on the album track by track on their YouTube channel.

From the band:
"It had been over 20 years since Mark and Jimmy Eat World had set foot in a studio together, so he 25th anniversary of Bleed American seemed like perfect timing for him to get back behind the console with Jim, Rick, Tom and Zach to discuss each song from the album that changed everything for the band, along the way unearthing fun new tidbits about the recording process and individual performances.

"Filmed at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, CA in April 2026, the videos will be released in album order."

They're through the eighth track right now as the series is ongoing. If you're a fan, you've got to check this series out.

Here’s the print version of the 7.22.26 Entertainment section cover story on Jimmy Eat World in the Los Angeles Times, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their iconic LP, ‘Bleed American,’ their deep ties to L.A., & their return to Vans Warped Tour for the first time in 25 years.

I also included the official PDF because it’s beautiful, too—and a video highlighting the social side of this feature, w/ Jim Adkins chatting with Vanessa Franko at their sold-out headlining show at in Colorado.

The photos by Evelyn Freja were taken at the band’s sold-out show at Brooklyn Paramount in New York, while Vanessa’s conversations with Zach Lind, Rick Burch, and Tom Linton, along w/fan content, came from both shows to help bring this story to life. 🥺
