Today was hot. So hot, that I decided to spend most of it working with indigo 🩵 I pushed this batch of indigo leaf as far as I could working 4 pieces - 2 cotton, 2 silk - and added several quilting squares at the end to try and capture as much pigment as possible. The color difference in the relationship indigo has with cotton vs silk is always so striking when working with the fresh leaf. My hands will be that silk shade of blue for days and no doubt I'll hear about it everywhere I go 😆

Hoping to get one last fresh indigo dye class on the calendar before the summer is gone. I love these moments to try on my own but when i get to teach classes it's like multiplying my own learning times ten!

When I start to harvest the first real rounds of sunflowers and rudbeckia, it's always my signal of the coming fall. I think they usually represent summer to most, but for me it always seems they come on when the mornings are starting to get light a little later & the first chill air hits. The smokey backdrop from the wildfires makes these yellows particularly bright, tiny lights when things feel heavy. 💛
