September Event Tip: Build Relationships

Successful events are built on more than timelines, budgets, and checklists. They are built on relationships.

From attendees and sponsors to speakers, vendors, and community partners, every connection has the potential to strengthen your event and create a more meaningful experience.

Building relationships takes intention. It starts long before event day and continues long after the final session ends.

Here are a few ways event hosts can strengthen their connections:

✨ Get to know your audience
Understand their goals, challenges, and what they hope to gain from attending.

✨ Create genuine partnerships
Look beyond transactions and focus on relationships that bring shared value.

✨ Communicate consistently
Keep conversations going through updates, appreciation, and meaningful touchpoints.

✨ Follow up after the event
A thank-you message, feedback request, or continued conversation can turn a one-time interaction into a lasting relationship.

The strongest events create communities, not just gatherings.

What Matters Most:
People remember how an event made them feel. When you invest in relationships, you create trust, connection, and experiences that encourage people to return year after year.

Tell me… How do you invest in relationships, create trust, connection, and experiences with your events?

Get this: we're 270 days into 2026! Can you believe it? This time of year, I like to do a full reset on my creative space. Yes, we're talking a deep declutter, a total mood board swap, and fresh flowers on my desk (non-negotiable). I feel like it lights a fire under me. When my surroundings feel intentional and fresh, my ideas follow suit, and suddenly I'm dreaming up the most ambitious events of the year. And hey, I may just end up rearranging my entire office in the process and calling it "creative research." 😄 Any traditions or routines you like to practice this time of year?

Event Pillar #4: Difference between having an Event Strategist vs. a Virtual Assistant

When planning an event, having support is essential. But the type of support you need depends on where you are in the planning process.

A Virtual Assistant can be a valuable resource for administrative tasks and keeping details organized. An Event Strategist brings a different level of support by helping you shape the vision, strategy, and overall experience.

So what is the difference?

✨ A Virtual Assistant helps you manage tasks
They may assist with:

Scheduling meetings

Organizing files

Managing emails

Updating spreadsheets

Supporting administrative needs

✨ An Event Strategist helps you make strategic decisions
They help with:

Defining event goals and objectives

Creating the attendee experience

Developing timelines and planning strategies

Identifying potential challenges before they happen

Making recommendations based on industry experience

Think of it this way: a Virtual Assistant helps keep the engine running, while an Event Strategist helps determine the best route to reach your destination.

Both roles are valuable. The key is understanding what kind of support your event needs to be successful.

What Matters Most:
Successful events require more than completing a checklist. They require strategy, intentional decisions, and a clear understanding of how every element connects to create a meaningful experience. Knowing when to bring in the right expertise can make the planning process smoother and the final event stronger.

Get ready to elevate every event—I'm here to equip you with the strategies that make planning shine.

Great events don't happen by chance. They are built through thoughtful strategy, intentional decisions, and a clear understanding of what creates meaningful experiences for attendees.

Whether you're planning a conference, corporate gathering, nonprofit event, or special celebration, the planning process can feel overwhelming without the right tools and guidance.

That’s why I’m passionate about sharing the strategies, insights, and lessons learned from years of creating events that bring people together.

From defining your event goals and building your timeline to creating engaging experiences and navigating challenges, every step of the planning process matters.

My goal is simple: to help event hosts feel more confident, prepared, and inspired to create events that truly connect.

What Matters Most:
The best events start with a strong foundation. When you have the right knowledge, resources, and strategies, planning becomes more intentional, the experience becomes more impactful, and your vision has the opportunity to shine.

I’d love to know… what makes you feel more confident, prepared, and inspired to create events?

Sponsorships aren't just about funding your event they're about building relationships that create value for everyone involved.

The most successful events don't simply attract sponsors; they cultivate partnerships that align with their mission, enhance the attendee experience, and support long-term growth.

What Matters Most:
Great sponsorships feel like a natural part of the event experience, not an advertisement. When your partners share your vision and contribute to the attendee journey, everyone wins from your sponsors to your guests.

Core Value Spotlight: Hardworking

At MTR Event Design, being hardworking means more than putting in the hours behind the scenes. It means I’m continuously learning, sharing knowledge, and helping event hosts feel more confident in their planning decisions.

Event planning is complex. From developing a strategy and managing budgets to selecting vendors, creating engagement opportunities, and navigating unexpected challenges, there are countless decisions that impact the success of an event.

That is why education is at the heart of what I do.

Through my blogs, insights, tips, and resources, I work to make event planning knowledge more accessible for hosts who want to create meaningful experiences but may not know where to start.

Being hardworking means:

✨ Taking the time to understand what event hosts need
✨ Sharing strategies that simplify the planning process
✨ Staying current with industry trends and best practices
✨ Helping others avoid common challenges and make informed decisions

I believe every event host deserves access to the knowledge and tools that help bring their vision to life.

What Matters Most:
Hard work is not just about what I accomplish. It is about the value I create for others. By investing time into education and sharing my experience, I help event hosts plan with more clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Have you ever wondered what really goes into producing a professional conference?

When attendees arrive at the beautiful Palace Hotel, they see polished registration, engaging speakers, and valuable networking opportunities.

What they don't see are the months of planning, collaboration, and countless decisions that made it all possible.

In my latest blog, I'm taking you behind the scenes of the FPA NorCal Conference to share what it really takes to create an educational event that feels seamless from start to finish.

If you're planning a conference or professional event, you'll gain insight into why strategy always comes before logistics.

Event Planning Solution #3: Funthentic!

Great events aren't just well-organized they're memorable.

Today's attendees are looking for more than information, schedules, and a place to sit. They want experiences that feel authentic, engaging, and worth their time.

That’s where Funthentic comes in.

✨ Fun + Authentic = Meaningful Connection

Creating a Funthentic event means designing moments that encourage people to participate, connect, and feel like they are part of something special.

Here are a few ways event hosts can bring more Funthentic energy into their events:

🎯 Create interactive moments
Move beyond passive listening with activities, conversations, and experiences that involve your audience.

🤝 Design for connection
Build in opportunities for attendees to meet, share ideas, and create relationships.

💡 Show your personality
Your event should reflect your brand’s unique voice, values, and purpose.

🌟 Surprise and delight your guests
Thoughtful details from creative activations to unexpected moments can transform a good event into a memorable one.

Fun doesn't mean losing focus. Authenticity doesn't mean sacrificing professionalism. Together, they create experiences that people remember long after the event ends.

What Matters Most:
The best events balance strategy with emotion. When attendees feel connected, engaged, and genuinely welcomed, they don’t just attend your event—they become part of the experience.

What is one event moment you still remember because it was fun, unexpected, or meaningful?
