We invite you to join us as we exploit our younger selves for your entertainment! The idea is simple: folks read on stage from their worst adolescent writing, including middle school diaries, high school poetry, unsent letters, etc. Now in our 20th year, the Salon is cathartic for readers and hilarious for the rest of us.

🦄 We’re excited to announce that Kathy Hsieh is TOJ’s 2025 Unicorn of the Year!

This award is given to a distinguished community member who embodies TOJ's mission of nourishing a vital and diverse arts culture in Seattle. Kathy Hsieh has done this in spades in her role as an award-winning actress, playwright, director, producer, grantor, and advocate. For more than 20 years, Kathy has dedicated herself to artistic work that creates visibility and opportunities for artists of color as the co-founder of SIS Productions and as a Racial Equity Grantmaking Strategist at the Seattle Office for Arts & Culture. She has been in more than 50 shows at Theatre Off Jackson in countless roles, including her recent performance on our stage in “Exotic Deadly: Or the MSG Play” (in co-production with Pork Filled Productions and SIS Productions).

We recognize Kathy’s maternal prowess on and offstage in her care for uplifting others. Please join us in celebrating one of Seattle’s greatest theater icons! Kathy, for your incredible propensity to juggle a zillion projects and remember every single one of your lines, while making each person you meet feel seen and heard, we want you to know that you are truly a unicorn!
