I definitely did not grow up thinking, “You know what I want to be? A wedding planner.”

I kind of fell into this. But I stayed because I realized pretty quickly that a wedding is not just a party. There’s a profound meaning to it that I really love.

You’re getting to know two people, figuring out who they are individually and who they are together, and then creating something around that.

That’s the fun part for me.

Give me the weird stories. Tell me about your grandmother. Tell me what you’re obsessed with. Tell me about the place you went together that you still talk about. Tell me you love college football so much that you basically want your wedding to feel like a tailgate.

Okay. Cool. Now we have something to work with.

I love being able to take all of those little pieces and turn them into something people can actually experience.

And then I get to watch the people I’ve spent months getting to know walk into it.

That’s why I stayed.

Yes, there are contracts and timelines and emails and approximately 900 moving parts.

But underneath all of that, I get to make something really personal for people on one of the biggest days of their lives.

That’s a pretty cool job to accidentally end up with.

Send me your favorite painting.

Your grandmother’s favorite flower.

A picture from a place you traveled together.

Something from the house you grew up in.

Tell me a funny family story.

Tell me about the person who was your anchor growing up.

Tell me about the restaurant you’re obsessed with, the music you always play, the thing the two of you do every Sunday.

It doesn’t have to have anything to do with weddings.

Actually, sometimes it’s better if it doesn’t.

Because I don’t want to look at somebody else’s wedding and figure out how to make your version of it.

I want to take all these little pieces of who you are and figure out what *that* looks like as a wedding.

Give me the weird stuff. Give me the sentimental stuff. Give me something I can work with.

If the only reason you’re doing something is “because that’s what you do at weddings,” that’s a pretty good reason to reconsider it.

I don’t care whether your wedding is traditional or trendy. I care whether the choices you’re making actually mean something to you.
